What happens to lapsed Catholics?

I am the only one in the family who has stayed in the Catholic faith. What happens when adult, practicing Catholics leave the church, taking their children with them and never receive the Sacraments again? So can they, do they get the mortal sins off their souls without confession? What about their children they influence to leave the Church?
