Apparently there are many different answers to that age old question: “Where does a person’s soul go immediately upon death”?
Heaven, Hell or Purgatory?

One would think that if a faithful and practicing Catholic, without serious sin were to die, that person’s soul would go immediately to heaven or if with some stain of venial sin perhaps immediately to Purgatory.

But, is this necessarily so?
Recently I had a Priest tell us that although the soul knows (at the instant of death) to where it shall spend all eternity, it goes into limbo until the second coming of Christ.

Whenever I attend either a Protestant or Catholic funeral we seem hear much about the goodness of the deceased and how we can be reassured of their place in heaven, perhaps in spite of missing Mass on Sunday and later receiving the Eucharist.

So my question is: At the time of death are we falsely thinking that we will be in heaven with Jesus or will we actually have to wait until the second coming before entering the gates of heaven?
