If everything is going to end and the “afterlife realms” (as I’ll personally call them) are going to change dramatically to put it shortly then would there be like a “mass evacuation” of everyone who’s in Purgatory into Heaven or would some souls in Purgatory start “going* up* or down” depending on how purified so far they are?.I’m sorry if my wording sounds silly.

Heh. i always envision some poor soul who’d been sent to Purgatory, just barely making it, glad but fearful.only to have trumpets blow, like 10 minutes later.

Not realistic, but funny.

Purgatory is a sort of “entryway” into heaven–the souls there are already judged worthy of heaven, but are not yet ready to fully enjoy heaven. They still have attachments and stains of sin–hence the need to be purged before they can fully enter heaven.

On the “last day”–this is tricky, since we don’t know what sort of rules govern time outside of this world–when they are ready, they will enter heaven. In one sense, they are already there, but then they will enjoy fully all that heaven has for them. In another sense, we are not sure whether this will happen “before” or “after” that last day, or all on the last day–and it really doesn’t matter. What matters is that we will be ready to enjoy heaven fully, and that at some point, it will continue forever.

Time is different in Purgatory. While those Elect still living on this Earth would be instantly transformed into their glorified bodies, those in Purgatory on that day will not lack for time to be purified to enter God’s presence. This, even if they only entered there the previous day and had many serious marks on their soul.

They say those who die before the last day and are sent to Purgatory will suffer their just suffering just like everyone else in purgatory. If someone commited sins that would entail (for example) 20 years suffering, they would experience that 20 years suffering in the day that they are in purgatory. Also if anyone is alive on the final day, they will experience all the temporal punishment they merit before the judgment.
