His bishop could revoke the priest’s permission to celebrate the sacraments as a Catholic priest in the diocese and forbid him to preach or teach on Catholic doctrine and morals. He would also be subject to dismissal from the clerical state, but would still remain bound by his vow of celibacy unless dispensed from it by the Pope himself.
