What has happened to our country??

I didn’t put the name of my country (Ireland) in the title, because I’m guessing this problem is happening in more countries than my own.
When I was growing up in the 80’s, times here were tough; people has less. But in spite of this, people were happier. Crime figures were tiny compared to today, and the Catholic Church was a lot more respected than it is now.
Nowadays, things here are a lot different. We have more millionaires than any other country (per capita), officially.
You’d think things are better because of that, but man…I’ve never seen standards take such a slide. It’s unbelievable!!
Morality is gone, absolutely gone. Anything goes. Crime is gone through the roof. A couple of murders a week now, and nobody cares. Last week, I saw a young girl, who couldn’t have been more than 12, wearing clothes with the playboy symbol, sickening.
Drugs have taken the place of God, at least in my city.
The Church here is in hiding. No literally, but it’s not tackling these issues head on. Never heard a sermon in Mass challenging these issues.
Can these trends be reversed?? Sorry to sound so harsh and depressing, but, in fairness, it’s happening. It’s time for it to stop…where will it go if it’s allowed to continue??
I’m genuinely deeply concerned.😦

I am from croatia and from what I hear, our countries have a similar history and similar problems nowadays.
eventhough my country is 95 % catholic, you have to search and search and search to find a normal catholic family…
there is a movement here that tries to make as many people possible to pray the rosary daily for our country. about twenty thousand people so far have enrolled and pray every day… I hope the Lord will hear our voices…
 
All generations and societies since the beginning have invoked these feelings. Yeah, it seems like our society (US) is going to hell in a hand-cart, but I remember my father saying the same thing years ago. If enough of us have faith, and keep the faith, we’ll be ok. When you think about it, the worst part of society is Hollywood, the music industry, most of the media, and a lot of the politicians(not all). That’s a very small part of our world today. Most other aspects of our society are doing pretty well. Be positive, keep faith in Jesus, and it will all be ok…

I remember my father saying we were going to hell in a hand basked also. If he were alive today and saw what was going on, he would say we arrived. And I have to agree with him. It all started when prayer was removed from school. Since that time, this country has been on a downward spiral where morality is concerned. Political correctness of “celebrate diversity” is not correct at all, but another path to lead us further into the bowels of hell. The answer is prayer. How many of us actually pray for our nation to again be one nation under God. This we all have to do. Pray the rosary. Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Do this for our country and for one another. This is the answer.

When we lived in a small town in New England, someone commented that the town was dying. My father responded that it had died years before; rigor mortis was now setting in. I think we died when we elected our first pro-abortion president. We are now entering rigor mortis.
 
I wondered if that would happen in Ireland. It’s party time, when bad times go and good times come in, and it can lead to excess, which can make it possible for crime to jump. Imagine a big street party celebrating a special occasion. There are more muggings and assaults on such nights than on regular nights, even per person in the street, because the fun-times amosphere takes away from people’s desire to look out for each other. That’s how I see it here, anyway. We have people longing for the way they used to keep an eye on one another in the Depression. Maybe there’s a lot to that. On the other hand, some crimes thrive when times are bad, such as domestic violence, because victims can’t leave when they can’t afford to move. So, all in all, good times are better after all.
The Bible says the sin of Sodom included fullnes of bread. :eek: I hope all us prosperous peoples get it right beore God teaches us a lesson.😦 And I hope everyone in the world gets a chance to try out a good economy someday. It has its definite advantages.
 
Yes, sadly… these terrible things are happening all over the world. 😦 My personal belief (not based on ANYTHING which the Church teaches… just my own, personal feeling) is that we’re nearing the end of time. Thus, the devil is “stepping up” his attempts to ruin souls.

My gut feeling is that WE, the Children of God… need to counter this evil activity in the world… by “stepping up” our witness to the Catholic Church, the Church founded by Our dear Lord. Receive the Sacraments OFTEN… pray the Rosary… pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Frequently visit Jesus, in the Tabernacle.

And remember the words of the Angel, who spoke to the women at the Tomb…

“Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus, Who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen even as He said. Come see the place where the Lord was laid. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen; and behold, He goes before you into Galilee; there you shall see Him…” (Matthew 28: 5-7).

Many thought that the destruction of the Temple, the sack of Rome, etc were the end of time. They were the end of their time; not of all time. I suspect that we are nearing the end of our time - Western civilization, but the world will go on without it.

Chesterton suggests that the Dark ages were necessary to purify Greco-Roman philosophy of its pagan baggage. We may need the same to purify our science of its anti-life focus.
