I cannot commit to following/believing in any one particular faith, but over the years i have accumilated bits of a large number of religions. What have others learned from other faiths and has the information been useful.👍
 
I have learned that the Catholic Church combines the best of what is good in all of them - and goes beyond.

We have the consistent and spiritually satisfying monotheism and structured worship practices of the Jews and Muslims.

We have, in St Theresa of Avila and St John of the Cross (not to mention others such as Hildegard of Bingen and Julian of Norwich) the inspirational sacred poetry (and more) that compares easily with the best works of Hindu and Buddhist mystics.

We have just the right amount of the flexibility of belief and worship that our non-Catholic non-Orthodox Christian brothers have. Kept in check by a formidable base of consistent logic and scholarship as exemplified by St Thomas Aquinas.

All this combined with the utter awesomeness of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and a shared understanding of the beauty and rightness of the longstanding traditions of our faith, that we share most fully with our Orthodox brothers.

All that and Christ’s assurances that if we follow the teachings and Traditions of the Church founded on Peter we won’t be led astray 👍 :cool:
 
I’ve learned that everyone has a need to make sense out of life and wants to find a way to relate to, adjust to, or manipulate whatever/whoever is behind it all. To me, those who see that cause as a loving and personal being tend to reflect that attitude to the world.

I think one is best able to study religions if one has made a commitment to one of them. Then you have a place to stand while you look at the others. You can see how they differ and how they are similar. You can bring an emphasis those of another faith put on some value and bring it into your life or you can step over and accept that faith. So, as a Catholic, I can appreciate a Buddist reverence for all life and put more emphasis on that in my life but I cannot not accept the idea of reincarnation.

IMHO if you make up you own religion by picking what you like from each, you miss the point. It is not a faith, it’s just a muddle.

A run-down of whatever you find objectionable about each of the religions you’ve encountered would be interesting.

Hi

I have learnt that Islam combines the best of what is good in all the denomination/faiths/religions of the world which includes that one should be prepared to accept any truth in all of them on merit if one is convinced with it in all humility .

Ive learnt a lot from this forum, including what other religions are about, the fact is, from what i have learnt, i will always remain a steadfast Catholic.
