Today I learned:
  1. Jesus was mostly man. 60% man and 40% God, to be precise.
  2. Jesus was unaware that he was God until his baptism by John and then it was a gradual process of realization.
  3. Scripture, while inspired by God, contains many errors and contradictions because people have corrupted it and added there own agendas to it.
  4. There are no right or wrong answers to questions of faith or morals. It all depends on how we feel about things after prayerful consideration.
  5. The best source of teaching on the scriptures are the commentaries of William Barclay, a Protestant minister in the Church of Scotland.
This is my second year of RCIA and I am praying that God will grant me reception into the Catholic church so there will not be a third. This all makes me so very sad.

  1. NO!
  2. NO!
  3. That might apply to some modern translations.
  4. No
  5. If your a Protestant.
Make sure that the pastor know this is happening, If you reply that it was the pastor who taught this, I’m going to fall off my chair.

Thank you Br. Rich! What on earth?

This is classic RCIA in today’s feminized, watered-down, parishes.

It is not however, orthodox, magisterial, or worthwhile.

Look up the latest document released by the bishop of sioux city Iowa. Change is coming! Aslan is “on the move.”

Yes…this was my RCIA 15 years ago even…everything I learned about Catholicism, I learned on my own…There were 2 sisters teaching us and some like 2 or 3 lay people, and believe it or not, they actually crossed out the he’s in the Bible and replaced them with she’s, in the passages we read. There should be a universal RCIA program designed by the Vatican or something…too much misinformation is going around:(

Wow Arianism is still alive, as well as other ancient hereies. You should tell your instructor that Arianism was refuted in the First Council of Nicea.

Tell these people that the Hypostatic Union is NOT a matter of percentages. Jesus Christ is FULLY GOD and FULLY MAN.

What the…? NO!

Since when does the Church allow RCIA to be taught by Muslims? This is horrifying.

No way. There is no way that any Catholic should teach this or accept this.

Ridiculous!

I don’t blame you. If my RCIA class had taught anything like this disgusting ball of lies and heresy, I definitely would not have ever considered Catholicism. You are being spiritually abused and scandalized by people who are teaching things that are contrary to the Catholic faith. Please advise your priest or bishop as soon as possible so that others are not led astray. These “teachings” are highly unorthodox and do not provide even the most basic foundation in Catholic belief. You deserve much better.

I went through RCIA as recently as 4 years ago and nothing like what you have described was even hinted at. I feel sad, ashamed, and angry that this is allowed to go on under the auspices of educating potential converts.

God save the Church from itself. 😦

  1. Jesus is true God and true Man
  2. God is Omnipotent, so Jesus would know since conception that He is God
  3. God is the Truth, so He cannot contradict Himself in His Word
  4. God is Self-Existent, He is not dependant on our feelings
  5. Apostolic Tradition is the best source on the Scriptures, since that is where they came from
Read the Catechism, if you are not already 🙂

“Being economical with the truth.” What an interesting way to call someone a liar. Luckily, I’ve got a quite thick skin. Neither that nor being nicknamed The Pharisee (from asking once too often, “But what does the catechism say?”) bothers me.

I can’t speak for other parishes, but here, a second and even third year of RCIA are not uncommon. My hold up is primarily, and quite understandably, while my petition for annulment of a previous marriage is investigated by the tribunal. Other classmates of mine are in their second and third cycle because they were deemed not ready by the instructors and DRE.

Fortunately for me, I have a pretty good background in the Bible and theology (at least from a Protestant background). I studied in seminary before deciding to pursue another path. My trip home to the Catholic church was inspired by a careful study of the catechism and the writing of the Fathers of the church.

I have zero doubt that Catholic church, founded by Jesus Christ, entrusted first to Peter and then to his successors, speaking through the vicar of Christ, is the repository of the true faith. Similarly, I am certain beyond any question whatsoever that traditions and teachings espoused by the Catholic church are true and faithful to the Word and will of God and will be so until the end of time.

Wait a minute. You are a baptized Anglican with a good background in scripture and theology and studied in the seminary. Why the heck are you in RCIA? If you were in my parish, with that background, after a good interview and maybe a few sessions to make sure you are completely in line with Catholic teaching, we would have brought you into the church after maybe 2 months after you first inquired. Having you go through 2 years of RCIA, and bad RCIA at that, is a travesty.

I don’t mind the wait too much, but I do understand what you mean. In my case, I’m waiting for a decision on an annulment, and God willing, I’ll have it in time and favorable, so that I may enter this Easter. Other than the questionable teaching, it is a congenial group, I do learn things, and the coffee is good! 🙂

Paul

Wow thats scary. Are there any better parishes around, I would go find another.
I always liked the Idea that as a Catholic I could go to any Catholic church any ware and be in the same church. I guess with creeping liberalism infecting the church you can’t take for granted that just because the sign out front says Catholic you may get something a lot different.

South end of the Bermuda Triangle.

I don’t suppose it will do much good to go to the pastor or the bishop, then. Well, you seem strong. Perhaps you will be an agent for change. Otherwise, I’d advise you to hightail it.

He is waiting on an Annulment decision. At least I think that is what I read?

What is your point? Why not post something that’s worth a discussion or at least thought provoking? You obviously know this is rediculous - but you got my attention because I thought you must have learned something interesting to take the time to make a point of it. I was disappointed.

I’m sorry for disappointing you. Please email me your address and I will refund your money.

Seriously, I guess I posted it because my head hurt, I was disappointed, I was annoyed. Not good reasons to waste electrons, I suppose. I do apologize to anyone who felt cheated by the thread.
