Mormonism tends to point men into masonry; the two religious systems being so compatible and related. Mormon temples include explicit use of masonic symbology. Mormon meeting places often depict the Lord wearing the toga. This a major error. The toga was worn by Roman Senators as part of their religious obligations to the sacredness of the Senate. The Roman Senate, by the time of Christ, was firmly Atheist. The religion the toga represents is paganism and its government was and is symbolic of the idolatry of the world and Christian persecution.
One cannot speak of Mormonism without speaking of Masonry. The two philosophies are deeply intertwined. The politeness, wit, cleverness, intelligence and general appropriation of purely external appearances to appeal to the base senses of man, to create a “veil of goodness” is equally present in both systems.
Elevating smoking and drinking, for example, to a cardinal moral issue is representative of a perversion of sound morals. The Mormons turn the Cross into a scandal and the Sacrament, which includes some wine, likewise into a scandal for their believers. These are systematic roadblocks to the true religion of Christ. It is no different than certain environmentalists elevating vegetarianism into an almost religious and moral duty - it creates a false appearance of morality and imposes upon man’s morals false commandments.
The Mormons are Christians who were misled and deprived of the true Sacraments of Faith; the very fruit and gift of God. They are taught to scorn the cross. They are taught a false system of morality, and elevate the commandments of men to the commandments of God, a gross usurpation of divine authority. For all the good that they do, still the pernicious errors in the belief-system of Mormonism can be a cause for great evil.

One more good thing:
The wards (equivalent to parish) are small. If it gets too big, it gets split. Everybody is encouraged to attend their wards and get involved in all the activities within the ward. It makes it so that everybody knows everybody and can provide service on a personal level. You need help, you know, personally, the people that can help you.
Yesterday, the bishop in our ward (the president of that ward) sent my 6-year-old a postcard from his travel. He said it reminded him of this picture that my 6-year-old drew for him a year ago (my son drew a picture and asked me to drive him to the bishop’s house so he can give it to the bishop). It made my son feel 10-feet-tall.
Also, because the ward is small, everybody has a chance to share what they learned. My 8-year-old son, for example, stood up to the pulpit several times to address the ward and tell him about how he applied what he learned of the gospel in his school.
Also, both my sons have been asked to give a talk (similar to a sermon) in their Primary classes.
So, at an early age, my sons learned to gain confidence to speak about what they know and show an example. The spiritual blessing is, of course, to build courage to speak up if you want to share what you know or question what you are being taught. The temporal blessing is confidence in public speaking.

I want to use this thread to share the awesome things about the Catholic Church as well.
I was in the Catholic choir for the longest time. It is a wonderful experience. I love the dedication the volunteer choir gave to this service and the music is truly wonderful. We had a professional choir director, a professional pianist, a professional flutist, and a violinist. Everyone else are amateurs - some with more talent than others. I played the guitar and I’m a lousy one but it didn’t matter. We all sounded good. Then, one of the choir members - a 10-year-old kid - would take his turn on the piano sometimes so the pianist can sing bass. He was amazing. A very spiritual kid! Everytime he plays, the presence of the Spirit is so strong.
It was something I will always treasure.

this is very true. probably why they make such great public speakers. also i love the Mormons for their patriotism. i think utah is the only state i have driven through that actually has billboards proclaiming different amendments from the constitution, and the bill of rights. as an independent conservative, i love it! also love their talk radio out there. Glen Beck is also a well known Mormon, who has his own talk show. on the radio, and t.v. love the guy. he is intelligent, with a good sense of humor. he also has a very good testimony about what led him to Mormonism. good interview on you tube if you havent ever seen it. peace

The best thing about Mormons is almost all active LDS actually believe what their church teaches. I personally do not know one Catholic that believes using contraception is sinful. Most in my parish think a gay lifestyle is ok as long as the partners are 'committed". Most think women should be priests as well. Many are pro-abortion rights). Most vote for pro-abortion rights leaders. Until our bishops decide to actually teach the faith and demand the priests do the same, being a Catholic really doesn’t mean that much. Look at the devotion and participation the LDS get from their young people. Can you imagine most young Catholics donating two years of their life, paying their own way for their church? I sure can’t. The LDS are a shining example of what a faithful people can look like if spiritual leaders will actually lead. The Catholic Church, while still the true Church of Christ, is very sick. God have mercy on us.

The FFA has had their annual conference here for the past few years and there are all these nice scrubbed looking teenagers walking around town in their FFA jackets.
Everyone asks, "Do you think they’re mostly Mormons? They have that ‘look’. "
And they do. Clean, tidy, a bit washed out. Almost too polite to be teenagers. But we welcome this group, no matter.

The Catholic Church has the truth, yet fails to teach it in any effective way in the western world. The LDS Church has part of the truth, yet teaches that part beautifully and fervently. Who has the greater error?

I don’t know how old you are, and I have been told I make too much of my age (and wisdom
) but when I was growing up in the 1950’s and '60’s Catholic youth had the same reputation.They have managed to keep their values intact, and that is admirable.
So my question for Catholics is: How can we get that back? Part of it is because of Vatican II, but part of it is the fast changes of society.

amen to everything you have said. i have been very fortunate in that i was led to Godly priest and Catholics who do teach what the Catechism teaches. i will pray for your parish. Father Corapi and his teachings were in part, instremental in my looking into Catholocism. i wish we could clone him too! peace

The only way to get it back is to start with the parents. Parents need to be taught what it means to be modestly dress and why it is important. Also, the mormon church is a way of life. Children and adults go to sunday school classes every sunday and learn the gospel. And the kids are instructed about dress code, gospel principles, and obeying the commandments. And the adults are also involved in learning too.
Society is changing but the lds learn to be in the world but not of the world. And that makes all the difference.

I think one of the best ways to do this is to enhance the teachings of Family.
The Philippines is a little more in-tune with Catholic teachings because most of the children attend Catholic schools. In the US, though, a lot of time, the most exposure one gets from Catholic teachings is the Sunday mass and the Wednesday classes (and that’s even mostly for children).
It should be emphasized that families teach at home. There are many blessings that can come from this: first, it gives families the opportunity to learn from each other and discuss doctrine where they are the most comfortable to ask and question. Second, it brings the family closer together. Third, it establishes traditions right inside the home.
I think just this small of an improvement will magnify the church’s teachings.
The LDS church reserves Monday as Family Home Evening. This means that the church will not schedule anything on a Monday - no meetings, no activities, no lessons, no callings, no visits. Monday is reserved for families to be together.
This can be applied to any family. Just pick a day - one day of the week - and consecrate it for Family. If you make this tradition, the children will learn to honor it even when they’re teen-agers and have their myriads of activities and they don’t want to be with mom and dad anymore. Then you can use this day for spiritual upliftment.

That’s from the Catechism (not an exact quote, but from memory). The Church provides the resources needed to find the Truth (e.g., the Catechism). The smoke of Satan may blind or make the the pursuit more difficult, but never impossible. We can blame clergy 'til we are blue in the face; nonetheless, the Truth is available, and the faults of clergymen in championing the Truth do not lessen the incumbent duty, built in to the very frabric and nature of man, to seek the Truth, and adhere to it.

I liked that the LDS couple greeted us with brownies when we moved into the cul-de-sac.
I liked that an LDS couple brought the other kids and I a meal when Lis was in the hospital with our last child.
I like that they send out missionaries. I would have little interest in a religion that is indifferent to my conversion.

and another good thing. they accept an authority above themselves. that they rely on a teaching authority. we really are not too much different in that respect. any benadictine monasteries in utah? id really love to move there after my obligations are complete with the military. they would make wonderful neighbors. peace
