what i like about protestants

this is kind of a penenance on my part. i have a very bad habit of coming down hard on fundamentalist, having been one for many years, before my conversion to Catholocism. my apologies if i have offended any of you. again, we can debate theology someplace else. so what do we like about protestants? fundamentalist too. i be happy to start this off. last thread ill be starting like this. there is a reason for it. 1. protestants have a huge love for the bible. 2. protestants love to share the good news of Jesus Christ 3. protestants are very strong on sending missionaries to other countries, to not only spread the Gospel. but bring in wonderful things, like medicines, clean water, food, agriculteral knowleged etc. this includes the good ole U.S.A. in the appalation mountains, and other impoverished parts of the country. 4. protestants place a huge emphasis on prayer. 5. my mother,father, daughter, and son are all protestants. im the only Catholic in my family. we still love and pray for one another. im sure many here come from similar situations, or in the reverse. Peace and grace to all of us. 🙂

This should be my penance too. =\ I come down hard on protestants (I’m mostly talking about the baptist, nondenominational, or fundamentalists) way too much.

Here is what I know from personal experience:
  1. I know so many devout protestants. I know they take their faith seriously.
  2. They are really great when it comes to fellowship. They know how to make you feel welcome.
  3. Usually the devout protestants that I know will have a bible handy. 👍
  4. The Baptist church signs I pass on the way to school have funny messages 😉
  5. Many protestants I know are very enthusiastic about evangelizing, and aren’t afraid about it.
Well, as you can see, I am trying not to generalize, becuase there are many different kinds of Protestants.

I can relate to you. Even though I do not agree with the many divisions,they are still our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Well, Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t exactly claimed by Protestantism, but I really admire how they seem to have most of the (southern) race issues worked out.

your fine. i started by saying protestants and fundamentalist. JW;s would probably fit in the fundamentalist catagory:D its kinda like a JW i met, who was still a JW but has been attending mass for over 10 years said.“i belong to an ultra protestant church!” lol! thats what he said… not me.😉 peace:)

No, but seriously, I do also come down hard on Protestants alot, big time. I like how to love the Bible so much, and I also like a particular Anglican vestment, the chimere.
 
Wow! I’m feeling the love here. Thanks for the nice thread. Just so you guys know, most protestants feel the same way about Catholics. Many of us who know Church history know that Luther did not want to leave the Church, but “reform” it back to what he believed were its historic beliefs. Many of us appreciate the rich content found in the liturgy and traditions. Some of the protestant services can be shallow in comparison. And because many of us believe that the Church is not of this world and is the sum of all true believers we also see our Catholic brothers and sisters as true brothers and sisters in Christ. If I ever get up too high up on my soap box feel free to rebuke me appropriately. I am confident that we can disagree without being disagreeable if we put our hearts in it.

I remember jogging by a church near my house and they had a sign that day that read “If you are looking for a sign from God, here it is.” I almost passed out from laughing so hard in the middle of my run. You just reminded me of that one. Thanks.
 
They are our Christian Brothers and sisters. I like how passionate they are about their respective religions. Most of the discussions/debates I’ve ever had with a Protestant they’ve been well informed site the sources for their material.

I met Jesus in a Four Square Church when I was 20 and then moved to a small town in MN where I went to an independent Assembly Of God. During that time I worked for a group home for mentally retarded adults. On Sundays most staff did not want to go to church when they worked, and when residents wanted to go to church someone had to take them. I always volunteered. In that 8 year period I took residents to Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, Assembly of God and Lutheran churches. There are very devout people in every church. I then married a United Methodist and joined that church for 16 years. So I have a lot of personal experience in a lot of churches. My experiences is what got me to he Catholic church. Here are some things I like about protestants:
  1. They love their Bible, and most people know it well.
  2. They are missionary minded, both to witness God’s love and perform corporal works of mercy.
  3. They have an emphasis in intercessory prayer as well as personal prayer.
  4. They have excellent music in worship services.
  5. They are very fellowship minded.
  6. They encourage lay people to be a part of all the ministries and committees.
  7. They are good at knowing where to avoid conversations where there are doctrinal differences.
    I joined the Catholic church 5 years ago. I am the only Catholic in my family and extended family, so I still have opportunities to visit their churches even though I never miss mass on the weekend. I can tell you protestents are very good at persecution when a person decideds to become Catholic, but mostly it is due to misconceptions of what we believe. Most protestants are more Catholic than they realize. Some protestants are ready to hear and are curious what we believe, others are not.
 
lets also not forget the wonderful schools that protestants have started. moody bible intstitute comes to mind. also dallas theological seminary. and if it were not for protestantism, we wouldnt have jimmy swaggert. man that guy can sing some serious Gospel music. i used to crank it up to 10 going through louisianna! and the after service coffee and fellowship is always a plus. I like the Protestants and especially Fundamentalists when they won’t take you-know-what from robbers and slackers and other people who are committing crimes, and then fall down and scream and say people are picking on them. They won’t put up with it.

Protestants don’t put up much with personal corruption, that is basically why they left us 500 years ago…but I do hope they come back.

Protestants are very devout and they live so deeply the Word of God.

Protestants are very welcoming and friendly, and Sometimes we come out thinking and reflecting, but instead of taking this inspiration to our neighbor, we take it to coffee and donuts. Protestants left us 500 years ago because we were cold.

Protestants are evangelical and are alive with the Lord to bring Him to others. Some times Catholics are afraid to come on too strong. Protestants left us 500 years ago because we seemed more focused on ourselves.

May be if we can help them better understand we do live and pray the S criptures, that we are warm and loving and want to have fraternity, and want to bring others to the Lord, then may be they will come back.

After all that is said and done, people leave the church because of the lack of virtue they see in fellow Catholics, not really about doctrine…Luther was responding to corruption as the Church had already taught our salvation is in the Lord’s merciful grace.
 
Ok–I’ll join in. I may need it as I’m feeling a little wounded from them after converting to Catholism…😦
  1. I love most of their music…it’s rocking! Especially one of the places I went to…I was glad to see some of that music make it’s way to the Catholic church.
  2. The people I knew there–most of them were sincere in their love for Christ.
  3. My knees didn’t bother me–no kneeling:D
  4. Most of the pastors were kind…one in particular had a heart of gold.
