A different thread,
instead of complaints about abuses against the holiness and centrality of Christ in some places, lets talk about the good things. Regardless of the deformations at least most of us have this… The Eucharist.

I love how we kneel in respect and adoration of the Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the silence in which we contemplate the reception of Christ in us after communion. In my parish we have about 5-10 seconds of silence in respect before the announcements.

I love how we have our faith based upon the one Holy Sacrifice of Jesus which is united in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, not a preacher or any man but soley on the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus, which is available to all of us in the Mass.

I love how our Priest is vested in distinctive garb which reflects the Priesthood of Christ and allows us to focus on the words of Christ, the action of Christ and the presence of Christ as He works through the Priest and presents to us our faith.

This focuses our attention that our faith is not based on man but on God’s perfect action, which our faith is centered on. Christ, the Eucharist.

God Bless

Amen!

I hear way too many complaints on this forum about such small details.

If Jesus is there, nothing else matters.

If Jesus is not there, none of it matters.

I love the way the mass is structured. There’s every type of prayer, time to listen, to reflect, to respond, to sing, to be silent. We hear the word of God proclaimed and explained. We use our bodies to kneel, bow, sign with the cross, reach out to others. We see Jesus in the person of the priest and in the Eucharist. We receive Him in communion. Even when we are distracted, the signs, symbols, and flow of the mass keep drawing us back in.

This is a wonderful thread, Scylla. Thank you for starting it. 🙂
  • I love the quiet reverence prior to mass, giving me a chance to really focus on prayer and prepare myself for being at mass.
  • I also love the true presence of Jesus right there and knowing that I will be receiving Him.
  • I love the good and humble priests at our parish who make the mass as reverent as possible and do everything during the mass so seriously and deliberately - beautifully spiritual and helps me further focus on Christ.
  • I love the sacred music used at our 11:00 mass, which adds to my focus on God and the mass.
  • I love how many of the traditions of our Church during mass have been kept up, giving me a connection to my ancestors and a further connection to Jesus.
  • Most importantly, as you mentioned, Scylla, I love how the Holy Sacrifice and the True Presence of Christ are what is first in focus for our worship at Mass.

It is exactly how my wife of 17 years was drawn in from her Southern Baptist roots. After our first Mass together, she was hooked ! She said “instead of being yelled at for an hour, I feel like I actually DID something”.

And, as we traveled over the years, no matter where we go, Mass is still Mass. Like McDonalds, the decorations may vary slightly, but the menu is always the same 👍

Actually, what I find interesting, is the differences between priests, especially in a parish with more than one.

No priest is “perfect” in all aspects of the priesthood, or even in Celebrating the Eucharist. Some say a very devout Mass, but their homilies are awful…some could be more reverent saying Mass, but their sermons rock your world.

But put all together, it’s still great to be Catholic.

I don’t know how anybody could have expressed the beauty and the unity of the Catholic faith better by using “McDonalds” than you have in that example.

God Bless

So true… What inspires me the most about priests, especially the ones in our parish (we have 6) is their sincere holiness and reverence and love for God, the mass and for the people. Yes, they are all different in their “strengths”, as you say, but they are all good and humble and will sincerely do their best, which is as good as any of us can do in our own lives. Since I cantor every week there, I’ve gotten to know a little bit of almost all them and I can say that our parish is very fortunate.

The Mass is the constant, and the people are the variant. We are all connected to the Oneness we have in Christ in the Eucharist, even though we are all very different. Each Mass has its own “flavor”, so to speak, because each week the people bring to it something different. So, while the Mass is the source and summit of our lives, and is the constant unchanging backdrop, we the people are changed when we go. We help each other by our participation and prayers, and the Mass allows us to be the community Jesus wants for us. “That they may be one, Father, as we are one” (John 17)

I looooovvvvvvve taking communion:heart: :gopray:

I always feel so humble and grateful.

I love to sit alone when I “pop” into church on a weekday when know one else is there, (well…except for You Know Who!!:angel1:

And I love the Lamb Of God song. I am always moved to tears when I hear it. 😉

I love the Consecration. Just to be able to see what is happening before your very eyes…will move me to tears sometimes.

Great thread:thumbsup:

Here in Montréal at the beginning of mass they have an Angelus to the Vierge Marie, sung in French. It is a beautiful hymn that goes on for about ten minutes or so, and in between they say the Hail Mary each time. With the burning incense it is the most beautiful beginning to the mass.

Those who have posted before me on this thread have done a beautiful job of explaining the wonderful things about Mass. I love that we have access to the Mass - generally on a daily basis. I love that during the Mass, the angels and saints are there with us. I love the strength and grace that flows from the Mass and the Eucharist. It is an awesome treasure that we as Catholics have. What’s not to love?

I wish i did not have to work today. Reading this thread makes me long for Mass in so many ways. Great examples of why we attend Mass. I can’t get enough of it. I work a crazy swing shift and so I have many weekdays off. I ask my wife to wake me at 6am on my days off so I can get up and get ready for a 7am Mass. I am still not, yet,Confirmed and am getting ready for my first Confession.

Why do I go to so many Mass’ during the week even though I can’t take Communion. Many reasons, but the main one is to watch you guys go up for Communion. The looks on some people faces says it all. Even though I have not taken Holy Commuinion I still feel a part of. In fact,I know that I am a part of what is happening. I am seeing something Holy happen before my very eyes. Something you just can’t get anywhere else.

Thanks for a positive thread. I really need to get back into these types of threads. I have been spending too much time on the debating threads.

When I was in RCIA, I started going to weekday Masses. I was recovering from a serious illness, and was not working at the time. I really learned the Mass from the inside out by going day after day. I sat either alone or in the middle of a pew so I wouldn’t be in the way for people who took Communion. I loved the closeness to Jesus, and that time of preparation really made me appreciate the greatness of receiving Jesus in the Eucharist when I was Confirmed on Easter Vigil. God bless you as you prepare for your own First Holy Communion! Welcome home.

I love Mass!

As a prior Baptist, the differences between Mass and a service are so incredibly different, I can’t even really explain. It’s like going from eating baby food all my life to being given a juicy steak and told to enjoy! I could never go back.

I went to a retreat during the Year of the Eucharist and the priest said that when we are in the presence of the all the angels and saints as well as the Lord. Ever since then I get chills when the sanctus bells ring.
