What, if anything, would you say?

I would have quoted jeff foxworthy;
“getting married so you can have sex is like buying a 747 so you can have free peanuts. there are a lot more economical ways to do it.” after that, I would say something, “I’m catholic and I married my husband because I love him dearly and wanted to share eturnatity with him, like all the catholics I know, and like my church teaches us.”

As a matter of fact, yes. I wrote a short “fictional” story about it here:

😉
LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!!! I feel like saying the same exact thing to my IL’s when they start the inquisition on me.

Thanks for the story and a good chuckle!

Incredibly good story. I loved it and sent the link out to family.

Thanks guys. I hate that story, but it was pertinent to this topic, so, whatever. 😉

Not the same religion but the principle is the same…

I’m married to a Jew and everyone knows it. One day at work a gal I worked with used the phrase, within my hearing, “…jewed him down.”

I was shocked and angered but I stayed in control; I stood up from my desk and said, “WHAT did you just say?”

She was so embarassed she nearly died, apologized profusely, and never said anything like that again. I truly don’t think she meant it the way it came out; it was just a slang phrase she used without thinking. I’ll bet she thought about it after she that!

Interestingly, our new boss was also descended from the Romany people – gypsies – and he took the opportunity to tell us why the term “gypped” is considered a slur on the Romany people and they find it offensive. It was a very interesting, learning experience, and it wouldn’t have happened if I’d flown off the handle and pitched a fit (I certainly was tempted).

You need to be be very forthright but not belligerent.

Montanaman,

Liked the story, but I think that hero of the story high tails it way too soon.

And I think that you may fear the heat too much.

Be Not Afraid.
