no doubt america lacks the certain “magical” qualities of england. but i do agree that if HP were set in america, salem, the bermuda triangle, and roanoke would be likely places for hogwarts. how about roswell, NM? perhaps the “alien” incidents surrounding the area were simply muggles experiencing witchcraft and wizardry? 😃
The Weasley Twins faked the whole Roswell thing…

I hate to alarm anyone, but Harry Potter IS taking place in America. Excuse me. I find Harry Potter extremely Satanic. And I see Satan in not so blatant forms as in Harry Books at the mall, as you said, in institutes of higher learning and institutes of not so higher learning, at movie theaters, in book stores, in clothing stores, in America’s insatiable need to LOOK like a child instead of becoming like one, in diet books and diet pills that try to tell you there are ways to eat all you want and still be thin instead of a good weekly fast day, in America;s boring interest in movie stars and movies that stand for nothing (GET A LIFE!!!) preferably IN CHRIST!!!, in support networks where we have come to depend on others instead of Christ, (Courage, anyone?), where children are no longer loved for themselves but as things that contribute to their parents more interesting life style, where children no longer have the same last name as their mothers,(Dear God that is sad.), where I hear some Priests bending over backwards to offend as few people in their homilies as possible (i can’t remember ever hearing a homily on artificial birth control and only two on abortion!!! And I have been around for long enough!!!) Oh, and my I state here where I see Satan raising his ugly head most often…in women who want a career AND a family. Sorry, honey, if you have a family THAT is your career. If you have a job you employer is going to get his pound of flesh, I have been there. Thank God He has enabled me to be at home. If you work you have no life left for your husband or children after 5pm. Oh, and Harry never mentions God in his books. You see Harry’s love is what conquers evil. I am sorry, but people there is no love apart from the source of all love… God, and there is no one who can triumph over evil except the Spirit of God… the Holy Spirit. Harry Potter, grab ahold of your seats ;here…is NOT GOD. His love cannot conquer evil. I just get tired of everyone shoving their erroneous lifestyle down my throat while I have to sit back and say nothing or smile in the face of such stupid lifestyles. I am just saying this so I can feel that I don’t have to sit back and let people shove stupid Harry Potter Books at me as tell me they are good, and I don’t care if a catholic did write them. They are evil. However, I seldom say these things anymore as a very Holy Priest once told me not to try to save the world…Our Lord had already done that.

there is room for a lot of divergent opinion about the content of the HP books and movies, but I think it is a real stretch to blame all the ills of society and culture on them.

Harry Potter, is not Santanic, half the things you are talking about, were around WAY before Harry Potter, and I will have you know that the wizards are religious, you find out in the 7th book that they go to church on Christmas AND the discreption of the church seemed to be a christian one. Harry Potter is purely fantasy, I could named many more books to be concerned about(some don’t really have magic), instead of Harry Potter, if you don’t like the book or think it’s satanic, make another thread for that or find one of the thousand others, but let us enjoy picking on our favorite book. Now back tot he topic,

How about a Harry Potter in Texas lol, They can get their on a magical tractor trailer, don’t know where in Texas though. Even better a Harry Potter in California, that would be hilarious but similar to what someone posted about the aclu suing to allow everyone in.

I actually think Harry Potter could be a bad influence on someone who had no spiritual formation. I do think it could draw impressionable kids into the occult.

But, for the majority of kids, it’s fine. It’s too bad that the author didn’t weave overt Christianity into it. What a great influence she could have had!

Back to the topic. I think the uniforms at Hogswart would be very different in America. Probably, it would be khaki pants and polo shirts like at most parochial schools. I doubt the kids would use broomsticks–wasn’t that an English thing? Probably they would use flying skateboards.

Hmm, it sounded like your talking about english riding(with horses), that made me think of a western broomstick, lol, I wonder what that would look like, maybe it would be a wider broom with a horn and some silver things hanging off it.

Excuse me but there are numerous Harry Potter is the spawn of Satan threads already on CAF,. Please carry your rant to one of these threads and let’s continue on topic here,

I believe that Michael J. Fox used a flying skateboard Back to the Future II

I believe are supposed to blame all the evils of society on Voldermort.

I liked the idea of flying skateboards. I agree about the polo shirts and khaki pants. Girls would be able to wear the pants too, (maybe not the more formal opening feasts but to classes. Dang it must be cold going out to Hagrid’s for “Care of Magical creatures” in the winter in a skirt.)

There isn’t the same history of boarding schools here. Even before I read the books a neighbor (from England) told me her dad liked the books because it reminded him of his school (only on the second or third book then)
Now the school schedule would be more like an American one. That wouldn’t be good for Harry since we have a longer summer vacation.

My friend suggested American wizards/witches would have spell guns instead of wands. They would be guns that shoot spells…because we’re Americans and wands are not. She hasn’t figured out exactly how they would work (how they would be made, how they would HAVE a magic core, etc.).
