What if I can't say a Novena prayer at the same time every day?

I work odd, differing hours and there’s no way my boss is going to let me take a few minutes out of any of my shifts to say a prayer, no matter how short.

Is it all right if I say it at a different time every day? Like when I come home from work?
 
Of course time doesn’t matter! Any prayer at any time is good prayer.

You don’t have to pray at the same time every day; you just have to pray it every day. :rolleyes:
 
Your novena is like your rosary. It is a personal devotion. You get to set the time of prayer as long as it is daily. Peace.
 
If you’re really concerned about this, check out the Code of Canon Law for what defines a liturgical “day.” Midnight to midnight.

Try to say morning prayers in the morning, and evening prayers in the evening.

Beyond that, the world’s your oyster.
 
You’ve received the correct answer.

Now. Ask yourself: Do you seriously believe that God would turn away someone who is speaking to Him in prayer? And if you do, why do you think that?

Novenas are a devotion. Meaning, you pray them out of love, not because they are a kind of spiritual coupon.

If you feel like you have screwed up and it is putting odd thoughts of God not caring into your head, simply start over.

I feel like given the flurry of panicky threads you have posted lately, that a long talk with a holy priest might be in order. There’s only so much online strangers can do to ease your mind.

God doesn’t deal with us the same way we make demands of him, thank the Lord.
He is mercy. In fact,the Divine Mercy Chaplet might be a wonderful devotion for you!
 
I’ve actually been praying the Divine Mercy chapter recently.

And I do have a priest.

Right now, my prayers are, “God, if I could x, y, and z, that’d be great, but ultimately I just wanna be happy. Thy will be done.”

But people keep on telling me that’s wrong!

It’s wrong to pray to be happy? Should we pray to be miserable instead?

What people?

You can pray for contentment, sure. But to pray for a very specific item can often lead to disappointment. I think that may be what they are trying to say…but go ahead and pray for peace and happiness.
 
My priest honestly hasn’t been the best recently, he’s been going on and on about how God is punishing me for this and that and I should’ve seen it coming. His whole attitude is one of “I told you so, now lie in the bed you’ve made”.

Anyway, concerning the Novena. I finished it. Now, things seem to have improved, but they are moving slowly. Is a second Novena in order? Is it all right to do multiple novenas for the same purpose, close to one another?

Keep in mind that novenas are private devotions and are prayers. One thing they are not are magic rituals that could lose its effectiveness if not said according to a strict formula.

Since they are private devotions it is up to you to do how many of them.
 
I don’t believe they’re spells, but I do believe they can benefit from more than one recitation. We’re told to be persistent in prayer, especially when you’re up against something big as I am. I feel like there’s some spiritual bumps that need ironing out.
