What if I kiss the Bishop's hand instead of his ring?

When I recently met a Bishop, and he extended his hand, I tried to kiss his ring, but I somehow accidentally missed the ring and kissed his hand (or finger I think), He did not seem to mind or notice and just smiled and said “God bless you” like he always does. Is this something I need to worry about and be more careful next time, or is kissing his hand (close to the ring) acceptable?

I will presume that both you and the Bishop are of the Latin Church. The Bishop knew that you attempted to kiss his ring and accidentally missed. He accepted your kindness and reverence towards the episcopal office. Don’t give it another thought. In the Latin Church kissing a Bishop’s hand isn’t the norm but in Eastern Catholic & Orthodox tradition kissing a bishop or priest’s hands is a normal sign of respect.
