I was asked how we even now that this is reality, and maybe it is all in our head (or in that persons head) and they made everything for their entertainment (so basically made themselves god). I think the way to understand this question is. what if only I exist, and everyone else is a part of my imagination, so everything around me is just to entertain me, and I hid the fact that I am god from myself just to make it more real. Please answer seriously. Thank you.

This belief is an extreme version of solipsism. I can’t answer this question. I don’t think anyone (if there is anyone else!) can. But I will attempt to resolve the question by asking this: does it matter? What are the significant differences, besides labels, between a fictional reality (oxymoron, eh?) and a real one?

“I think, therefore I am.” Rene Descartes.

Ack! Descartes is the reason for this question, not the answer! Radical skepticism = bad!

No offense.

It’s impossible to prove that the world is not imaginary (proving a negative is difficult to the point of being impossible), but, let me ask you: do you have any reason to doubt the world’s existence? If not, it seems reasonable to trust your senses until you are given some reason not to.

I was asked… what if only I exist, and everyone else is a part of my imagination… Please answer seriously. Thank you.
Okay, serious answer.

If only you exist, then the person asking you the question is only a figment of your imagination, and you are not obligated to answer or even acknowledge questions posed by your own figments.

You’re welcome.

Last time I stuck my hand in a fire it hurt, I use to work as an electricians apprentice and when I got shocked it hurt. So I hope whoever made me for their entertainment enjoyed it, because I didnt.

But if only I existed and everyone else is part of my imagination then my imagination is mean because when I got in a fight with that kid in High School, that principals whooping hurt. Dang you imagination. I thought I was in control.

But if I was God, how could I hide anything from myself? If I could, what if I never found it?

Those who declare everything is imaginary or who declare reality is impossible to know or understand are either indifferent to reality or intellectually bankrupt. A simple philosophical journey will discover that reality is not the space-time contiuum, which is only real as far as senses and science is concerned (and so is properly called a “space-time contiuum”), but is He who created all things, who is the Cause of all goodness and the Summt of all goodness - the Beginning and the End of reality. God is reality, reality itself.

Well, my answer is a little off then.

  • the Beginning and the End of reality. God is reality, reality itself.
The end of reality, that was how I came to know God completely. At about age ten, while at school, I was on the playground with the other kids at noon recess. I was thinking about World War II and wanted to know what caused the war. I silently turned my attention to heaven and asked god to show me the cause of the war. I had a vision of white clouds that filled my head and there were black puffs of smoke suddenly appearing among the clouds. It was very bright, but lasted only a few seconds.

I didn’t know what to make of the vision, and as I had been walking on the playground when I recieved the vision I continued to walk. As I walked the other children began to become angry, shouting to each other and shouting around me. I had no idea why they were angry, but it seemed that they were all becoming increasingly angry with me. I continued walking and turned my attention this time toward God and began to confess, that I knew very little about life, and I had been told in so many words that life was all about love, and I knew very little about love. I began to recall every experience in my life that I believed was related to love, everything that I had thought and done that could be what love is.

Well, it didn’t take very long, and I had confessed everything that I could remember, and I said to him I really don’t understand much about what love is, even though I believe it is important. The children continued to shout and they all were shouting as I continued to walk on the playground. I walked on to a square blacktop that was recently laid, and we were all told not to walk on it. They lined up around the square edges and picked up stones and began throwing the stones at me. The stones were deflected toward the ground, and each one struck the ground and deflected away from a circle around my feet.

A girl in the crowd shouted above the others, “he disappeared!”. I then said to God in my mind that I did not want to exist. I stopped walking and stood motionless on the blacktop. They were still throwing stones and shouting, the school bell rang, they all droped their stones and stood motionless for a moment, then all began running toward the schoolhouse. Two of the boys ran through me. It was as if I was an atmosphere and I could feel a tearing sensation as they passed through.

They had all run to the school, I stood there for a moment and then vanished. Three hours later I was sent back. In the first moment there was only bright light, then thought and the vision begins to form, my body formed transparently, I could feel the warmth of the hot summer day as my feet came to the ground, and my body became solid.

I had arrived, back on the playground about twenty-five feet from where I left, on the gravel covered ground. I looked up and to my right, and in the distance I could see a white haired old teacher standing outside the entrance of the school looking straight ahead. She turned her head to the right, and then called to me, come here. I turned my head to the ground and did not move. She walked slowly up to me and took my hand, and walked me back to my classroom.

The school bell rang it was the end of the day. My mother came and drove me home. On the way home my mother said that someone had called from the school and told her that they could not find me. She said to me, Where were you? Thinking that she would not understand anything that I could say, I told her, I don’t know…

God has given you the ability to see, touch, taste, hear and experience the world. A world that is real. To believe that all that you perceive, and experience, is only what you create, is to believe that you are God. It is self-idolatry.

Also, it can be a confusion between what the mind imagines, and what is real. A very real psychological disorder.

Don’t you think you could have done a better job of entertaining yourself?

Stomach flu and root canals? Say it ain’t so!

Suffering must have a higher purpose outside of ourselves in order for life to be meaningful, IMO.

Say that it is all make-believe. It does not matter as it is still the state of existance that you are in. In other words, even if you are just a character in a dream, you are still you and you must still move through this existance.
