What if one dies with mortal sin?

I have been going to confession on a weekly basis since my return to the church this year. I just confessed Saturday ( which is our parish day of confession) and yesterday I borrowed a sleeping pill from my wife because I haven’t had a chance to get my prescription refilled. If I understand it correct, because I took a medicine that was not prescribed to ME than I have committed a mortal sin. My question is if you have one mortal sin that you can’t confess until Saturday, if I were to die I will I go to hell?

One of the things I struggle with is that you can live a saintly life and can go to confession every week but if you have one mortal sin and die in an accident before you get a chance to go to confession you won’t go to heaven? On the other hand you can live a life full of sin and be absolved of your sins at the last second of your life.

Where did you get the idea that taking a pill that wasn’t prescribed for you is ANY kind of sin, let alone a mortal one? I don’t see any sin here at all. If one is in the state of mortal sin and is in danger of death, the Church teaches that one can make a perfect act of contrition and the mortal sin or sins will be forgiven. The reason the Church does not suggest that one do this at other times is that one can never be sure that his or her act of contrition is perfect and done solely for the love of God without concern for self.
