2000 people can think the Dallas Cowboys are great… it doesn’t make it right!
Well I think agreement among believers is a wonderful thing and hopefully will bring about advances for your communities… Baha’is also value consultation and mutually supporting each other and generally avoid divisiveness and conflicts.Non-Catholic posters, what would it mean to you if the 2000 of us agree on something?
(“Us” in this case being the 2000 Catholic posters on this forum with post counts over 1000.)
There are no wrong answers.![]()
You’re really dancing around to avoid my question about the basis for your claims. Do yu have a basis for them?Well, now that I think about I would probably say that the 2000 of you are a sample of highly devoted (mostly) American Catholics. I would say that because you are participating on this board you have a higher level of knowledge. Maybe a good way to say it is that ya’ll (i’m from Alabama) take your faith more seriously than the overall Catholic population in the USA.
So you don’t think the Catholics on this board are a broad representation of American Catholic thought?
P. S. Before people start Reporting me, I should clarify that I didn’t claim that CAF isn’t representative. I’m just asking what the basis is for saying that it is.Could you first tell me what you’re basis is for saying that we are?
I guess it would simply that the Catholics on this board are a statistical sample. You’re really dancing around to avoid my question about the basis for your claims. Do yu have a basis for them?
Okay, I guess that’s true, if I remember my stats courses correctly.I guess it would simply that the Catholics on this board are a statistical sample.
Well, I had know CARM was so I googled it. It looks like they are 30 or so theologically educated people who write apologetic literature. Are they a sample of all protestants? I don’t think so. (Edit) I just got on the CARM website and see the have a discussion board. I have know idea if the members of that board are representative of of Protestant thought.Okay, I guess that’s true, if I remember my stats courses correctly.
The Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM) is likewise a statistical sample of Protestants, right?
P. S. Sorry if I’m asking you too many questions. The questions are basically for anyone, but most Protestants that I discuss such things seem to talk about it in a “hit and run” fashion rather than defending their statements.
I’m no expert, but I found this:Well, I had know CARM was so I googled it. It looks like they are 30 or so theologically educated people who write apologetic literature.
In that case, can you explain to me why they aren’t?Are they a sample of all protestants? I don’t think so.
Kind of hard to explain. Aside from a generally inquisitive nature, I guess my interest grew out of innumerable conversations I’ve had with Protestants about the Catholic Answers Forum over the years.I don’t mean to be snarky, but what is this so important to you?
I edited my post. I didn’t realize they have a message board. I just saw the list of 30 contributors listed on their website. I don’t know about the makeup of the members of that message board. I’ll join and see what is going on over there.I’m no expert, but I found this:

(I looked on Wikipedia just now, and their definition of statistical sample is “In statistics and quantitative research methodology, a data sample is a set of data collected and/or selected from a statistical population by a defined procedure.”)

Just an FYI and off topic - CARM is extremely anti-Catholic and most of it’s article on Catholicism are slanted toward hatred of the Roman Catholic Church.I edited my post. I didn’t realize they have a message board. I just saw the list of 30 contributors listed on their website. I don’t know about the makeup of the members of that message board.
