“The immaculate conception is a new and invented doctrine.”

So the folks that reject this dogma simply don’t understand it? Seems like a silly rationalization and an arrogant one.

But that’s beside the point.
Yes. Quite right. It might silly to some but things in life often do until understanding comes. Rationale isn’t silly because rationale is reasoned.

There is a huge amount of writing on the subject out there. Everyone has access to the same resource material so finding out and learning is an available option. It all comes down to whether people want to learn, or refute for the sake of it. If things are true then they will make sense in themselves and knit together with other truths. DOGMA does so the onus is on those who don’t understand to find out.
The point is that skylit the scriptures, doctrine and tradition simply becomes the worlds longest game of telephone. That’s why there are new and invented doctrines such as the Immaculate Conception.
That paragraph makes no sense.

I have asked this question many times and never have gotten a solid answer. When “tradition” is used as an explanation somehow there has to be a beginning and a person who actually taught it.

I don’t know…Marian doctrines confuse me and are the major reason I could not join the Catholic Church…

But, I digress from the topic. Sorry all… 😊

Blessings!!!

Rita
The roots can be found in Scripture. If you have the internet then there are a wide variety of good books and resources for you to learn about such things at your disposal.

Seems as if this thread has quickly become an excuse for some to knock the Church and the faith of the Church. Why do this in public? If people have faith issues then do some research.

Where has anyone knocked the church and the faith of the church?

What if I do all the reading and still disagree with the teaching?

Sorry, I don’t know why my phone made the word “without” to “skylit”.

The point is that without the scriptures, doctrine and tradition simply becomes the worlds longest game of telephone. That’s why there are new and invented doctrines such as the Immaculate Conception.

Prayerful reading is rewarding. If you still disagree then keep researching. The thing is, is that when we combine prayer and research and reading, with experience - theory can’t be cut off from the practical for too long - then it is as if one fuels the other. We need an outlet in order for the theory to become present to us in our lives. The experiences can then be taken back to prayer for the deeper meanings to come. Faith was never said to be easy. It has to be lived

This is the exact same thing JWs tell me about the Trinity. But you and I know better and not because it is or is not in the bible but because of the early councils.

Peace!!!

Disagreement with a teaching, says nothing about whether said teaching is either true or necessary. I know well read Christians who do not believe the bible is inerrant. They say belief in only the parts that they think are necessary for salvation is enough. And Christians who say belief in the Trinity is unnecessary. And Christians who consider the New Testament to be only the four gospels. And Christians who consider baptism unnecessary. All of them say they have the Spirit, and my beliefs are unnecessary. And still others who have read and prayed for years, and in good conscience they reject the gospel. What about all of these groups of people, who do all the reading, and praying, and still disagree?

All doctrine is new and invented at some point in time, with or without scripture. Newness of said doctrine, has nothing to do with the truth, or necessity of said doctrine.
