What if the priest did not have the proper intention at a real Mass?

Dear Fr. Serpa-

Thank you for your response. In the situation of a demonstration it is totally clear that there is no valid consecration. BUT, what if it is a real Mass. I know we cannot read the mind/heart of the priest but theorectically if the priest outwardly celebrates Mass but inwardly does not intend to consecrate the bread and wine is the bread and wine transubstantiated??

Dear Mickie,

There would be no reason for a priest to not intend to consecrate the bread and wine at Mass–unless, perhaps, he were mentally deranged. In a such a case, the consecration would be invalid and the bread and wine would remain bread and wine.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
