What if the trails of this life, are His mercies in disguise?

Have you learned the lessons of this life often through the tears of suffering?

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

We don’t always know the why and the wherefore, but truly, Christ in in charge.

Thoughts, stories on this?

All the saints teach us this, so it is a rich and essential part of the Church. Jesus chose the Cross as the means of our salvation. “Only suffering wins souls,” stated St. Therese of Lisieux.

As Our Blessed Mother said, “prayer and penance are the only ways to win souls”.
We don’t always know the why and the wherefore, but truly, Christ in in charge.
I like this line because it is the epitome of placing our trust in Jesus.

Sure. Just like a little child doesn’t understand why Mommy and Daddy say ‘no’ sometimes…when they’re adults they finally get it. We’ll ‘get it’, too, when (hopefully) we make it to Heaven.

Yes, we must see everything God sends our way or allows to come our way as good for our salvation:
Heb. 12:5 And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons?—“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
The Catechism sums it up like this: “While patiently bearing sufferings and trials of all kinds and, when the day comes, serenely facing death, the Christian must strive to accept this temporal punishment of sin as a grace” (CCC 1473)

There is a beautiful song, ‘Blessings,’ with some lyrics exactly like the title of this thread. 😊

May God comfort you and grant you peace.

I think some things happen specifically so that God can get our attention, or show us something we need to be shown, or learn something.

I think some other things happen because people have free will, and can choose to hurt others. I don’t think those are “mercies”, as such, but we can certainly trust that God sees it all and won’t let us come to more harm than we’re capable of getting through.

The expression what of what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger 🥴 comes to mind.

And yes SOMETIMES suffering has a lesson
