What if everything we stand for is wrong? What if all of Christianity isn’t true and when we die we’re just dead and there’s no Heaven? This is driving me up the wall because there is no hard evidence (as far as I can find) that we’re right. I go to church and pray and do what I can to talk to God but I never get any answer or see any shred of factual evidence pointing to Christianity being correct. I need some guidance here…

Honestly, that is why it’s called faith. We believe, though we do not see. That is very important. I went through a long period where I felt the same way. It took me nine long years to come to where I am today. I’m still not all the way there but I have found my faith again. I pray that you continue to believe. Our faith is what keeps us going.

Now I understand why God has given us miracles. Some people really need them.

If you are sincere, I would recommend studying the Miracle of Lanciano, and the Shroud of Turin. In my opinion, to a reasonable person, the Miracle of Lanciano will prove transubstantiation, which is one of the central doctrines of the Catholic Faith, and the Shroud of Turin will prove the resurrection of Christ. If I were you I would begin there, and there is plenty of information available online.

Maybe you can even start a thread and keep us posted on what you find.

I’ve been there to some degree. I believe with my whole heart that we are not wrong. God loves us and wants us to believe and love him back.

However… if it turns out that we are wrong… is it so wrong to live your life under a set of guidelines that tell you to love one another, take care of each other, and support each other?

God gave us those guidelines to help us find him. When we do them we can’t help but see God in every person, animal and thing around us.

Keep praying and keep looking for answers, but live your life as God has asked us to live.

So what if we are wrong? If we are at least we lived a good life, tried to be the best person we could, and spread love and happiness (well, we try to :)). I would much rather be wrong and live a good life than to think the opposite. If the others are right at least we are no worse off, but if we are right (and I wholly believe we are) then I would not want to be in their shoes…

St. Augustine said something really profound…

“Seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand.”

As human creatures, we need to sense (see, hear, feel, taste, smell) to accept something as fact. Yet we cannot taste the wind or see firsthand where others have walked before us. Still we accept that air is real and historical figures really existed.

Suppose, however, you abandon yourself totally to Christ. You accept His truth in your heart, He will give you the graces to know it is right.

What have you got to lose? If this is all just a big farce, when you die, as you suggested, you are dead. But if you reject Our Lord and you are wrong, you will have forfeited everlasting life.

If we are wrong, and have lived a good Catholic Christian life, we will know that we have done good and made it better for those after us, whether we are aware of it or not.

That said, what is the alternative, If we believe there is no God and live an anything goes life and then die and find out we were wrong and there is a God. It is then too late for mercy and justice will be ours. I prefer the first choice.

Christ rose from the dead… that is evidence 🙂 the disciples saw Him and then died for Him, because they knew He was right, because they saw Him defeat death.
We know He’s alive today not only because or miracles and answered prayers but because He changes people.

God bless

What if superman was on Germany’s side during the war?
Obviously if there is no God then something else must explain our existence .

Lets see what the possibilities are. We know the universe exists so either God created it or it created itself. Is that an option? No!

Matter created itself
To create something you yourself must exist
Matter pre-existed itself

That is insane. Only Christianity and Orthodox Judaism teaches the ex-nihilo [out of nothing] creation of matter so we have eliminated atheism and all other religions.

Now we are down to 2 questions. Should we follow the kosher laws and who is Jesus of Nazareth. No person in history ever willingly died for something that they knew to be a lie.

Judaism can no longer claim to know anyone was from the house of David so either Jesus Christ was the Messiah or someone else who lived before 70 A.D. .

The odds of any person fulfilling all the scriptures of the Messiah, which Jesus of Nazareth did is less likely than a DNA match at random. The obvious conclusion is that He is the Messiah and the only way to heaven is through His grace.

Happily we are NOT wrong, so you need not worry or doubt that God is who He claims to be.

Read some books on the saints, there are so many who have experienced God firsthand. Some have lived and performed many wonderous deeds. Either all these folks were chronic liars and nutcases or charlatans or God really does exist.

As recently as 1960, one of the world’s great miracle workers Padre Pio was with us. His life story should give you hope and proof that the miraculous is for real. Even in death his incorrupt body remains intact after more than 40 years.

God has left us many signs and proofs of His existence, a number of Eucharistic miracles, the incorrupt bodies of the saints, miracle workers in nearly every century, apparitions to various holy people. If we only have a little faith, we don’t have to live in fear of the unknown. A little aoubt once in a while is normal. I think everyone goes through that. But when I think about all the evidence, to me it is an absolute certainty that God is who He claims to be and the Church is what God wants it to be.

Hi butters 🙂
Look at it this way …
If you believe in God and stay true to the Church your whole life, living His Commandments and doing good to your neighbors and there is nothing after you die; what have you lost??? … NOTHING!
BUT! … if you live as you don’t believe anything is there after death and Christianity may be a “mistake”, and after you die, you find yourself face to Face with the Lord of the Universe … er, um … well … you’re gonna be in a HEEP OF HORSE DO DO! 😉
But not just this … Faith is a gift we must pray for … those who have it, should pray for it to be INCREASED too 🙂 The Church has many sacramentals as well as Sacraments to give us Grace and strength to walk in this world till we get “HOME”. Many do not take advantage of this sighs … Pray hard, do not let the evil one distract you with thoughts of doubt … he’s FAMOUS for that! Don’t let him get the better of you!!
I will keep you in my prayers too … may unshakable Faith be instilled in your soul as you learn more and more … may you find strength from the Sacraments that are readily available to you … may you find solace and peace with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament and may the Lord God Almighty shower you with His most choice Blessings!

Well, if there is nothing else, when you die there will be nothing except a complete and total cessation of consciousness. thats it. You won’t know it, remember it or even be aware of it. Doesn’t sound too bad if you think about it. Kind of like a deep sleep…

If on the other hand, we are right then eternity will be either really really good for a few, really horrible for some or a mixture in the middle for most of us.

I say don’t sweat it, continue to believe and pray a lot.

Just in case if for nothing else.

Are you asking if the Catholic belief is wrong since this is in the Traditional Catholicism forum? It seems to me that God is knocking at the door of your heart so that you will seek Him. One must believe on his own to God Almighty because God first draws him to Himself. No other than God can show you what is right or what is wrong. The truth shall set you free. The only truth can be found in God, who has inspired man to write down His plan of redemption of man in what we call the Bible.

Do not rely on man’s tradition, but rely on the truth that came from God.

May you find the true God of Abraham, Jacob, Issac, and all the born-again saints who place their trust and belief to His son Jesus, the only way to God the Father in Heaven… Amen

God bless…

My Grandmother died holding my hand… it was just her and I.

She was a deeply religious and good woman.
when she took her last breath… something was in the room with us. It was the most beautiful moment of my life. I have never doubted since that moment. That moment changed my life and erased any question I had in God.

We arent alone, God is real and He is good, He is loving and He wants us with Him.

I dont feel God everyday… but I did in the blink of an eye and it was a gift to a sinner like me that didnt deserve it.
