You got your vocation wrong? What if it was God’s Will for you to become a religious, but you got married instead? How would you know? God would always have known what choice you would make, of course, but how could it possibly be corrected if you somehow did figure out that you made the wrong choice? Or can it be assumed that, because you married validly within the Catholic Church that you did get your vocation right?

That’s not really how vocations work. If a man is truly called to the priesthood, he can still get married with a wife and kids, and live his life as a good Catholic. He may have missed his TRUE calling, but that’s probably it.

If you get married, you have to be 100%, there’s no going back and “correcting” what you may perceive as your right vocation.

The validity of a Catholic marriage has nothing to do with vocations.
 
Ok, so you’re saying you can be validly married in the Church, but still have defied God’s Will for your vocation by getting married.

So, then what? You just have to deal with the fact that your youthful ignorance had life-long consequences, and try to live in a Christian manner even though you’ve defied God’s Will for your vocation?

Again that’s not how vocations work. God may call us to certain vocations, but He never forces into them. God’s will is for us to be happy with Him in heaven, and whether we find our true vocation or not, that should always be our primary goal.

Ah my brother is awesome. He is a seminarian, so I really should have asked him first, but here is what he said. Basically, it can be a serious sin to deny a true calling to the priesthood or religious life, HOWEVER, if you believe you have denied your true vocation, and that you may have committed a serious sin, you simply go to confession and honestly confess your error. After that, there is really no issue. My brother said it may be possible that that person might have to endure trials and suffering as a result of their error, but it does not put any kind of permanent sin on their soul, and they are still bound to their current state of either the priesthood, religious vows, or marriage, and they cannot spend their life pining over a missed vocation.
