Sorry if i offended baptists i’ve never set foot in to a baptist church before is it like catholic church at all? my uncle who also converted to catholicism said its like a seminar is this true?

and again im Sorry if i offended baptists i’ve never been to baptist church in my life

& is it true THAT THEY THINK THE MASS IS SYMBOLIC WHAT??? WE accept baptist why cant they accept us ? We even accept atheists that convert to catholicism & they dont believe in the 7 sacraments is this true?

As for interracial dating, ITS NOT A SIN

My dad also told me that baptist have people as intercessors & that they have people to pray for them ?

i’ve been to sites that say Catholics worship mary WE DONT we pray to her

i’m 15, Just wanting to know what baptist believe in because my mom raised me catholic, & she was a southern baptist but she raised me catholic & i’m glad she did 🙂 because i’ve been to confession & is this true that baptist dont believe in confession?

She knows so much priests thought my mom was a cradle catholic but she’s a convert:D

I’m not a Baptist, but I think you might want to only ask one question at a time. Kind of overwhelming to throw 4 posts at them in a row.

A Baptist church don’t have statues, Jesus is not on our cross, we don’t have a altar, we don’t have all the glitter, gold, pictures, Our church is nothing fancy, its pretty plain, but the love of God is what counts and that is what we have, the love of God. But the best way to find out is to go and see for your self what its like.

I can’t answer why there are so many Baptist churches in the south. Could be that is the way people want to worship.

Racist and don’t accept interracial dating. I can only speak for my church and the would not be true. We have interracial couples, people from India, white, hispanic, black, and mixed. We are anything but racist.

We don’t discuss the Catholic Church at my church. We don’t discuss what you believe about Mary and the Saints.

If your uncle thinks its like a seminar then thats how he looked at it. I can tell you that is not what I see or feel. I think he says that because the preacher stands up on the stage and preaches. We don’t do ritual things.

No offence taken. You don’t know and you want to know. Asking is how we learn.

The mass being symbolic is news to me.

I can’t speak for all Baptist churches only mine, we accept Catholics and don’t look down at them at all, we may not agree with everthing the teach but we look at them as children of God just like we are.

Of course you would accept a atheist who converted, they converted so they are no longer a atheist. But do you accept a atheist who has not converted?

The 7 sacraments, we believe in some not all.

Of course interracial dating or marriage is not a sin.

I my church we all pray for eachother, we don’t have special people who do that. We are all equal.

The first part about Mary is a repeat and I have already commented on it.
No its not true, we believe in confession but not to a priest. We confess directly to God.

I was raised Catholic and converted to Baptist. I feel God at my church more than I did as a Catholic. I went through, infant baptism, confession, first communion, confermation. I was a altar boy and went to seminary to be a priest, that is when I left the Church, I disagreed with some of the teachings of the Church. I love being a Baptist just like you love being Catholic. If you like the CC then by all means stay, If you feel God there the stay, If you believe in their teachings stay. I will never tell you to leave your church or your beliefs.

As you go through other posts you will see that I disagree with some of the teachings of the CC and will get my point or beliefs accross. You will see that there are those who will say less then nice things about my beliefs and some about me because I don’t believe in the ways or some of the teachings of the CC. Don’t take it as being anti-Catholic or anything because I’m not. I respect the CC as well as all good Church’s that believe in God. We all love, follow and worship the same God, just in a different way.

I hope I answered your questions. Remember asking questions is how we learn and how we learn is by asking questions. I’m glad to see a 15 year old so dedicated to God. I pray that there are more like you out there.
God bless
Rev Kevin

Why Would you leave the CC ? & of course i judge nobody if my friend was an atheist, i’d try to help him because its your choice jesus Said “Either your with me or against me” i judge nobody its your choice either you can worship god or not … i don’t know … i love the catholic church because its helped me so much & is the baptist church a manmade church ? i don’t know if i’ll go

im just wondering Rev Kevin, You’re still catholic no matter what … you can still go … Why dont you use a crucifix ? its a reminder that our lord & savior died for us & When you confess in confession The priest is representing God so God is forgiving You

Because jesus Gave his apostles authority to forgive sins in his name

Then they past it down

So, you dont have prayers? like the Rosary, prayers to saints Etc?

i’ve been catholic my whole life & my mom was a convert & so was my uncle he said the catholic church is the true church & baptist were manmade well, i thought it was manmade because i hear that they made it

because they thought the catholic church was “corrupted” i accept anybody any religion i don’t judge even if there a Theistic Satanist i’ll accept them because jesus said “Thou shou not judge” well my dad said they thought that the catholic church was “corrupted”

There are several reasons why I left the CC and I have given you just some of them. Yes I’m still Catholic because when I wrote to the Bishop asking him to let me out of the CC, he failed to answer me back. I wrote to him 3x’s and he failed to respond 3x’s so it seems I’m forced to stay a non-practicing Catholic.

My son-in-law is atheist and I accept him.

We like to remember the life of Jesus, not his death. although his death is very important. we remember his life. see we are of the life of Jesus and the CC is about the death of Jesus.

We don’t need a representative of God to forgive our sins, when we can go directly to God for forgiveness. We don’t need someone who is acting as God to forgive our sins.

We all have the power to forgive the sin of someone who sinned against you. If your friend sinned against you and he asked you to forgive him, do you forgive him of his sin against you. You can or you can’t. See just like the apostles they can forgive sin or not. but only God can truly forgive sin. not man.

No we don’t, We pray from our hearts not what is pre-written. We don’t pray to anyone except God or Jesus who are one in the same.

Who made the CC, its said that Jesus did but Jesus never said I started the CC. It was man and the apostles were men they started the CC. Jesus did not. Jesus is the church but he never said what church he only says he is the true church.

There is corruption in everything and in every church. They did not believe in some of the teachings of the CC so they left. I could also be because of the inqusitions the some of the Popes indorced or started. Putting to death or torture those who would not follow the CC. So your dad my be correct if you look at it in this prespective.
Corruption is still going on you have the priest who molested young boys. the cover ups but to be fair there is also corruption in the Protestant denominations with having exteral marital affairs by pastors. So like I said it on both sides.

Approximately 1,580 years after Jesus died, a man named John Smyth fabricated the Baptist sect out of thin air while living in Amsterdam.

The ideas, practices, Theology, etc. of the Baptist sect is foreign to both the scripture and the nearly 2,000 year history of the Christian religion.

It is so very important for a member of the Christian Church to recognize that the Baptist sect was not founded by Jesus, but by a man. Only the Holy Catholic Church can lay claim to Divine origin. The Baptist sect, as well as all of the tens of thousands of Protest sects are the products of men and the tradiations of men, which we are warned about in the Christian Library.

The Baptist sect has had its share of both great men and some they would rather get rid of. Billy Graham is an example of one of the better Baptists (though, as ex-Baptist minister and Catholic Apologist Tim Staples can explain, Graham is completely wrong). Westboro Baptist “Church” is an example of the ones the Baptist sect would rather get rid of. Westboro is the Topeka, Kansas based group known for picketing funerals and displaying “God hates fags” signs during their pickets.

Hope this helps.

didn’t jesus say whoever eats my body & drinks my blood im in him? i might go to a baptist church but, theres no communion 😦 or no prayers at all?

and again im not trying to bash baptists if you’re a baptist who’s a christian spread the word!👍 i know nothing of the baptist church so that’s why i’m coming on CAF & asking because you guys help people a lot & you guys helped me a lot too if it wasnt for you guys i’ve would never manned up & went to confession 🙂

hi i need help. can only go by my experiences as a former baptist. rev kevin is correct, their churches are fairly plain, no statues and such. thank God some of them still have a Cross, even if it is not a full crucifix, its far better than a big screen tv entertainment center. a typical service consist of singing of hymns, prayer, reading of the word, and a sermon. followed by taking of the offering. just a general rundown. much emphasis is placed on the Word, and the Sermon. following services there is generally sunday school or whatever program they might be offering. mine used to hold several different classes for adults and their was a childrens sunday school too. as far as racism is concerned. i cannot speak for congregations in the south. but in the north its not acceptable. and yes i have in the past before i decided to remain by myself, dated interracially. nothing wrong with this at all. just ask moses 😃 its good you are seeking and asking questions tho. rev kevin, can clear up any errors i have made. its been a long time since ive graced the door of any protestant church 😉 Peace to you and yours 🙂

I was raised Southern Baptist. I always found the Southern Baptist church to be very boring, especially when compared to the Catholic Church. As for racism in the Southern Baptist church, I think that racism may have been a common feature amongst Southern Baptists years back but I don’t think it is any more. Of course, I could be wrong. However, every Baptist church I have ever been to was always either 99% of 100% Caucasian. This, of course, does not mean that they are racist. I live in a town where there are very few people of races besides Caucasian anyway.

That said, the Southern Baptists embrace a number of heresies including but not limited to:

  1. *]Sola Scriptura - They use only the Bible as a source for their doctrine. (Refutation: catholic.com/library/Scripture_and_Tradition.asp)
*]Sola Fide - They believe in salvation by faith alone. (Refutation: catholic.com/thisrock/1993/9304fea1.asp)
*]Once saved, always saved or eternal security - They believe that once a person becomes “born again” or “saved” or “receives Christ” that they will be guaranteed a place in Heaven regardless of any future sins they may commit. Even if the person quits believing, they will still go to Heaven according to this heresy. (Refutation: catholic.com/thisrock/2002/0203sbs.asp)
*]Baptism by immersion only - They believe that the only valid form of baptism is baptism by immersion only. In other words, you have to be completely and totally dunked under the water for the baptism to be valid. (Refutation: catholic.com/library/Baptism_Immersion_Only.asp)
*]“Believers” baptism - They do not believe in baptizing infants. (Refutation: catholic.com/library/Infant_Baptism.asp)

    God Bless,
    Holly

The differences between the beliefs of Catholics and the Baptists are numerous.
  1. Catholics have seven sacraments (Baptism, Communion, Confession, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick). Baptists only recognize two (Baptism and Communion)
  2. Catholics believe that baptism removes the stain of original sin and can be done at any time in life. Baptists believe baptism is a sign of initiation into the faith community, and must be done as a conscious choice. Babies and young children CANNOT be baptized.
  3. For Catholics, the purpose of Mass is to celebrate the Sacrament of Communion, which we believe to be the ACTUAL Body and Blood of Christ, in the flesh. Baptists consider the purpose of their services is to hear the Word of God preached. It’s all about the sermon. When they do have Communion (and it’s infrequent), it is regarded as nothing more than a symbol. Most do not even use real wine, but simply grape juice.
  4. Catholics have seven extra books in the Bible. We call them the Deuterocanonicals. Baptists refer to these seven books as the “Apocrypha”. They consider them useful for historical study, but NOT the inspired word of God. The problem is that much of the Biblical basis for several important Catholic doctrines comes from these books. Catholics believe that Protestants wrongly removed them. Protestants believe that they were placed in the Bible in error to begin with.
  5. Most Baptists believe in a version of “Once Saved, Always Saved”. In other words, once you accept Jesus Christ into your life, it is impossible to lose salvation, no matter what you do. You will go to heaven. Since we are all flawed creatures, none of us deserve heaven, but the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross saved us all. For Catholics, it’s more complex. You CAN lose your salvation if you commit a serious enough sin. In other words, although you accept Christianity, it is possible to choose to reject that gift. Therefore, we need Confession to make things right with God again. Baptists believe that you simply confess to God, and that a mediator is NOT necessary.
  6. Catholics believe in Purgatory, a place where the consequences of our sins will be purged. It’s like this: Let’s say I rob a bank and I get away with it. If, many years later, I feel bad about it, and I’m truly sorry, I may go turn myself in, give the money back, and ask the owner for forgiveness. So… I’m truly forgiven. HOWEVER… that doesn’t mean that I don’t still have to go to jail for a period of time! Purgatory is a temporary state where the “stain” of that sin is removed, so that we can enter heaven pure. Doing a penance on earth can also remove the stain of a particular sin, so that you don’t have to spend time in Purgatory for it. Baptists believe that Purgatory is nonsense.
  7. Baptists do not believe in praying to saints or Mary. They do not generally believe in reciting pre-made prayers, except for the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father). They do not believe in using images in their church, and will use a cross instead of a crucifix. They see the empty cross as celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus. Catholics celebrate the importance of both the sacrifice AND resurrection of Jesus.
  8. Baptists believe that Mary did not remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus, and that she went on to have more children. Catholics believe that the “brothers” of Jesus were either his cousins or his step-brothers, being the children of Joseph from a first marriage.
  9. Baptists believe that we honor Mary far too much, and do not believe in the Immaculate Conception (where Mary was born without sin). Most do not believe in the Assumption of Mary either
  10. Baptists have no hierarchy and no formal priesthood. They utterly reject the authority of the pope and see priests as unnecessary. Each congregation is independent and free to believe whatever they want, within certain limits. This is why the Baptists became so successful in the South. In the early 1800s, when the US South was extremely remote, formal churches like the Catholic Church couldn’t do well because it was hard to communicate with superiors. But… any Baptist could call himself a preacher, get a few people, meet in a building and you magically had a congregation. It was the easiest denomination to set up in isolated areas, because they didn’t have to answer to anyone. Also, the British broke away from the Catholic Church under Henry VIII in the 1500s. Because of that heritage, very few people of British descent were practicing Catholics. They were persecuted. Now, with all that said, in areas along the coast with a heavy Spanish or French presence like New Orleans, Mobile, and parts of Florida, you will find LARGE numbers of Catholics.

I’m sure that there are MANY other differences that I’m forgetting. However, the Catholic Church considers the differences SO serious that it believes that Baptists (well, Protestants in general) endanger their salvation with their beliefs. Notice I didn’t say that they are automatically doomed to hell. They’re not. HOWEVER… the mistakes in their beliefs could cause them to lose out on salvation.

When Catholics say that there is “no salvation outside the Catholic Church”, it does NOT mean that non-Catholics cannot be saved! It means that they might be saved in SPITE of a lack of knowledge. They will be doing the will of God, as passed down through the Bible and proclaimed most fully through the Catholic Church, without even realizing it. It’s akin to this. Imagine the Catholic Church as a 16 year old who goes out and buys a brand new car. They read the entire instruction manual, sign up and take driving lessons, and successfully make it to school. Now, imagine other groups (like the Baptists) are 16 year olds who go out and buy used cars. They have only partial instruction manuals, or perhaps no instruction manual at all. Some get lessons, but some do not. Now, they may eventually make it safely to school as well, but if school represents the Kingdom of Heaven, which route is the safer choice? If they DO make it to school, it will be by unintentionally following the rules that were in the book they never read and the lessons they never signed up for. (In other words, they were still saved THROUGH the Catholic Church).

Thanks! Let me also add that my wife is a former Baptist, and ALL of my in-laws are Baptists. They get along with me just fine, but you will find a range of opinions among Baptists on just about everything.
