What is a good book of the bible to study with some guy friends?

Hi all,

So I am in the Christian fraternity called BYX (Brothers Under Christ) and we are starting this college semester out in our usual Wednesday night bible study. Does anyone have any good ideas on a book of the bible that we could all study together?

I don’t know it depends on the group interest over all. I liked to study on my own some of the minor prophets. They are shorter to read and give the opportunity to switch things up a little.

Song of Songs.
No contest.

OK, seriously, I think Acts of the Apostles would be apropos.
Why?
College is the time when you are ‘casting off’ into the big bad world.
Your life, your own life, away from home is beginning.
Acts depicts the beginning of the Church. The Apostles were not ‘under the wing’ of Jesus anymore. They were going to have to figure things out for themselves… kinda like you guys are going to have to do.

I think it’s a book you will be able to relate to at this point in your lives.
And it’s a manly book, too. Peter and Paul courageously step out and stand up for what they believe.

Depending on where the various group members are in their faith journeys, it might be a good idea to begin with one of the Gospels - I’d suggest Mark, for a group of college guys. Short and challenging (WHY are the Apostles so dense?? WHY is Jesus so reticient?)

Luke/Acts would be another approach - to read them in sequence and see how Luke shaped the account to encourage the early Church (like ending with Paul holding forth in Rome, even though by the time his readers were reading the books, Paul had been executed. . . .)

Ok that’s weird, I asked this same question in Yahoo! Answers and someone else said Song of Songs. Any particular reason why you mentioned that even though you weren’t being 100% serious?

So we have decided to read John mostly due to the length and the need for it to last a whole semester. We feel that everybody ‘knows’ the gospels and they are easily looked over as such. However, we decided we would dive deep into John together and learn more about the life that Jesus led during the short time he was here on Earth.
