What is a good missal to have for Latin Mass?

The two of most popular missals are Baronius and Angelus Press, Fr Z does a great review of both. I have and love them both, for me the Angelus wins by a very, very slim margin.

Hi gallo, the one offered by Angelus Press is a good one as is the Fr Lasance and the Baronius. The links offered by jpy and Windmill are worth a look.

I like the Angelus, and I’d suggest buying one from Sancta Missa

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius is a wonderful group of clergy worthy of our support and a great resource for info on the Latin Mass. And btw, until you get one, you can go here and get the day’s propers in English. Updates at or just after midnight daily.

I’m in London, but I travel to Lexington one weekend out of the month. While there, I hope to start attending a Latin Mass on Saturday mornings.

a good missal is hard to find. i have 3 by father stedman on 1 by father lasance. (sp?)
a couple of the father stedman’s i found at church flea markets. however, a daily
missal circa 1956 or so might due well as some of the modernist translations started
to creep in around that time which had produced some questions. have a good year.

The 1962 Missal. Available through Sancta Missa Web Page,is very good and I have my original 1962 Missal.
This is the one my Priest offers us.
It’s before any changes were made to the Mass.
There is Katin and English for each prayer.
Also give a good explanation of the mass section by section.

The St. Andrew missal is nice, but the rubrics are pre- 62.

I bought a few missals off of ebay and a Latin missal was with it. It is the 1944 “My Sunday Missal”. Would this one be compatible with a liturgy based on the Roman Missal I realize it doesn’t have the readings in it so I plan to get the Roman Missal eventually.

I cherish my Baronius Press The Romasn Missal (1962). I only wish it could come with a CD of the Latin prayers (i.e. Pater Noster, Salve Regina, etc.) for its pronouciation of the Latin words.

The following website explains Pope John Paul II issuing a revised version of the Missale Romanum during the Jubilee Year 2000. The English translation of the revised Roman Missal is nearing completion, and the Bishops of the United States will vote on the final sections of the text this November.

Actually, the Tridentine Mass was constantly tinkered with from the time it was promulgated.

The two latest tinkerings were in 1955 and 1960.

All of these were before Vatican II.

So would the 1944 My Sunday Missal explained by Father Stedman suffice?

The words are clearly articulated and easy to learn. I highly recommend it.

I was unable to see the different Missals prior to buying one. I bought the Angelus Press one because the text was bigger than the Barionius. Although I don’t have TLM near me, it has been useful for when I’ve gone.
