Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. I came across my first Mason a couple weeks ago. I’ve heard on Catholic Radio that it is discouraged for Catholics to be Masons. So what exactly IS a Mason?

Thanks,

God bless

Besides people who lay bricks 😃 , they are fraternal organization (lodges), like the Elks, Kiwanas, and so on. They are often called “masons” because their origins did indeed begin with societies of bricklayers several centuries ago.

Masons, are a secret society that only shares its secrets and rituals with members and they only feed you what you need to know at each level. You can be a member of any religion as long as you believe in a higher power. If you are a atheist, you can’t join. What most masons don’t know is many or their rituals and symbols are derived from occult symbolism that traces it’s roots back to Baal worship (they will of course denign this in public). To lure new Christian members in they will sell it as being Christian in nature and at first (lower levels), the Holy Bible will be present at ceremonies. Once you start hitting the higher levels and among higher level masons, the Holy Bible never is seen and you must call the lodge leader “Worshipful Master”. Many great books on Amazon about former masons who left the lodge and it’s great deception. The Catholic Church is right to ban members of the Catholic church from being members. In the end you will be swearing allegiance to the angel of light. The great architect as he is called by the masons. We tend to call him lucifer or satan.

May God bless you and keep you safe from the evil of the masons, shriners, and the female version known as the OES (order of the eastern star).

I wonder why there isn’t automatic excommunication for members of 'Ndrangheta, Camorra and the Mafia?

They have secret rituals and oaths and are very, very, very naughty.

I was a Blue Lodge Mason for many years although inactive for most of the time. The Masons are a secret lodge and it takes only one member to keep you from becoming a member after a background check. The reason why I became a Mason was because of work politics. We had Catholics in the lodge. The ELCA church did not object to me becoming a member, but when I became a member of the LC-MS there was a problem. In order to join the LC-MS, I gave up membership in the Masonic Lodge

Contrary to popular belief, many masonic “rituals” are published on the internet so it is not a secret society. Also, the allegations made against freemasonry have been refuted by freemasons. It is not a religion, masters do not persuade you to not acknowledge the Divinity of Jesus in your life, and there are no satanic activities. If indeed there are symbols which may be used by pagans, then this claim is also true of christianity which uses the cross, symbol of the fish, and the birth of Jesus is celebrated on a pagan feast day. Even the days of the week are so named after gods of other religions. I see no harm in freemasonry from my perspective and I am sure that others involved in a lodge can attest to this.

My understanding of the Masons is fairly limited. However, I agree with what I’ve read so far. I do know that in the lower levels the members have no idea that it is NOT a Christian organization and it is only when you reach the very highest levels (around the 30 - 33rd. degree Masons) that it is revealed what they truly believe.)

If you go to Wikipedia there is some info on it. They do believe in a higher power, but that power is NOT the one true God of the Jews or Christians.

Catholics are not just discouraged from joining the Masons, but will actually be considered Ex-Communicated if they join. There is generally not a formal excommunication done by the Catholic Church, (although it could happen), but you immediately are considered excommunicated (no longer in communion with the Catholic Church) once you join. This is very serious! The Masons are a real problem in the Catholic church because of people’s lack of knowledge of what they are joining. It is full of Satanic influence and people are often taken in by the lies of the Masonic Lodge that they are Christian, etc.

You may want to research “Mason and Catholic Church” on Google in order to read the Catholic Churche’s official statements on it. Masons are opposed to the Catholic Faith.

Unfortunately Masonry has infilterated the Catholic Church (secretly of course) and it is speculated that there may be many Masons hidden within her walls. (This may be one of the areas that many liberal views are coming from.) It is wise for each person to be aware of the true views of the Masons and to be watchful for anyone trying to pass themselves off as a Catholic or Catholic clergy while secretly being a Mason. A good way to protect yourself is to know, not only what the Masons truly believe, but what the Catholic Church truly teaches (by reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church.) In that way, you won’t confuse a Catholic or even a Catholic clergyman who is in reality a mason or a heretic posing as a Catholic.

I have no doubt that the typical Masonic meeting would not appear much different then the typical KofC meeting. However, that doesn’t mean they are the same. It’s far easier to lure men into evil subtely so they are unlikely to resist then to confront them abruptly.

Read what Pope Leo XIII had to say:

vatican.va/holy_father/leo_xiii/encyclicals/documents/hf_l-xiii_enc_18840420_humanum-genus_en.html

The short version: Freemasonry is evil. Catholic should not join any masonic lodge. We should resist their efforts and pray for their conversion.

This is probably one of the worst places to ask what a freemason is. Most of what you’ll hear is deeply biased by fear of what people do not understand and do not know. As someone who is going through RCIA, all you really need to know is that you’re not allowed to be one.

If you want to learn about what freemasonry is, I’d suggest looking for information in places other than internet forums or youtube. An excellent place to start is the library of congress which has many of the ‘secret’ freemasonry rituals on record.

memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/S?ammem/ncpm:@field%28SUBJ+@od1%28Freemasonry–Rituals+%29%29

You should also note that there is a difference between the various branches of freemasonry. While all masons are blue lodge masons, not all masons are york rite, scottish rite, shiner, or other version of mason.

I think the Knights Templar have a decent FAQ about their organization.
