On these forums it’s usually someone who likes or agrees with anything the church has implemented or published in the last 500 years.

It means he’s a Catholic who is “progressing” on his personal road to Hell…😦
That’s such a judgmental thing to say. If you believe that then we should still pray for them not claim to know where they are headed since only God can know that. And they may just be sincere people who just don’t know better, which I’m sure the Lord in His Mercy will take into account.

As statedbythe OP, I would say it is an indifferent Catholic who is willing to accept any kind of Faith as being OK with him. He probably wouldn’t be caught dead praying the rosary, going to adoration, etc. Maybe attends Mass when it is convenient, sees no need for the Sacrament of Penance, except maybe communal penance with general absolution near Easter or Christmas. Comfortable with most of secular soceity.

Hi,
What exactly do you want to see the CC move on from. Since your not afraid to say so.😛 Of course you better watch out some people here bite:eek: 😃
I’d like it to move to more biblical and more joyful, make use of all the modern technology, reach out to new thinking.

I am bitten several times and still alive. What a miracle.

I find it amazing the uncharitable assumptions being bandied about here. Not only are the words liberal and progressive being used as pejoratives  but also many are questioning the faith, beliefs, and standing on the road to Hell of someone we know noting about.

Truth is truth. A person on the left (liberal) is just as heterodox as one too far to the right (conservative). Both terms are inadaquate but they say something. What they say is that one is not in step with the Church and as such is placing their immortal soul in jeopardy.

She is all of these things at once I don’t see your point.

My point was we were given two points of data. The father is Catholic and the child is being raised in the mother’s faith. I’m not sure how people could, from those two points alone, flippantly conclude that he is on his way to hell.

While ideally the child should be raised in the Church but would you prefer he divorced his wife if she didn’t agree? What would happen to the child then?
How do you know that the father isn’t making the best of the situation, preferring to have the child raised in a faith rather than none, and that by staying with his family he can teach the child by example?

Now it is possible (maybe even probable) that he is just some schlep who is just going along with his wife and doesn’t care too much what faith the child is raised in or he may not be. I just find it astonishing to re-read the posts to see how quickly a stranger is summed up and judged on only two pieces of information…and on a Catholic forum.

I just don’t get it.

As has been noted progressive is another term for liberal in reference to their faith.

To simplify the issues of women rabbi you can note that there are generally three types of Jews:

Orthodox, Conservative and Reform.

Orthodox do not allow a rabbi to be a woman
Conservative began to allow women in the 1980’s
Reform have generally always allowed women.
It sounds to me that it will eventually work its way down to the Orthodox Jew.

I doubt it. I usually compare the Reform to the Episcopals, the Conservative to the Baptists and the Orthodox to the Catholic. I think they’re too attached to the Torah to ignore parts of it to make a religion more palatable to modern society.

I agree that one should not judge to condemnation. However it is true that a father who allows his child to be raised under a different faith is putting both his soul and the soul of his child in jeopardy. This is just the objective reality. Imparting the true faith is the most important obligation that a parent has even before any other duty or obligation.

What I think has caused people to react the way that they have is that the individual is a self-described progressive catholic. Such a self-description speaks to the issue better than anything else as it is a comfort with a lack of orthodoxy. Such comfort is dangerous at best.
