Dear Anyone,

I am not able to pray the Office of Readings, but I have just begun praying the Te Deum on the days it would normally be prayed. I have recently heard about something called a “Te Deum service” and am intrigued. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any info beyond mere references to it.

Does Anyone know what comprises a typical (I assume they vary) Te Deum service or how it might be structured?

Thank in advance for any help or leads Anyone can give me.

God bless!

John

I assume that they are somewhat rare - they are thanksgiving (or more rarely suffrage ) services consisting primarily of the Te Deum which is sung solemnly as a means of thanks. There is no prescribed format - sometimes they can be joined with Exposition and Benediction, and in more modern times, ins oem places (e.g. Belgium), it takes place wihin a similar structure to the “Celebration of the Word of God” that is found in the liturgical books as a means of celebrating certain rites. Traditionally, a number of thanksgiving collects would conclude the Te Deum, and a sermon might be preached.

Just FYI, universalis.com/ provides all the readings of the Liturgy Of The Hours, either online (free) or as a download (one-time payment for multi-computer license). If you don’t have time or energy to pray the entire Liturgy, you can certainly choose which of the readings/prayers/psalms you might be able to pray.

Many of the readings are taken from the early Church writers and saints, which we don’t usually get to read except in this setting, and they are wonderful.

God bless you!
