We received info several years before turning 50, and have belonged for a few years now. They have terrific clout with legislators due to the sheer numbers of members. They offer discounts on a wide variety of services, and when I was looking at supplemental health insurance plans for an elderly friend, theirs seemed to be the most comprehensive and well priced.

I find their magazine and separate newsletter filled with valuable information on retirement (not there yet!), financial planning, health, and just about anything of interest to people 50+ and seniors.

I just started getting invites for the AARP a couple months ago, and I am only 44?
They started hitting me up at 48. Some, I know got the invitations for “50 and over only” a long time before that, so they really don’t know as much as some people say. I’ve been a member for 4 years but have not taken much advantage of the program. I’ve not found anything too objectionable about them. I may not always agree, but that is what writing your congressman is all about.

Thanks Carjack for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I found it helpful. Hope all is well!
