What is an Anlican?

Crikey, I’m really confused now…I was christened C of E (my mom tells me high church but not sure what that means- have googled but with no real clarification)…I always consider myself protestant but now I have read your thread on anglican, I’m not sure what I am???

High Church means with a preference for more formal liturgy: vestments, bells, incense, etc. It is closely aligned to, but not identical with, Anglo-Catholic.

As to protestant or not, that depends on whom you ask. If you ask a RC, it is a certainty (mostly) that you will be told you are a protestant.If you ask an Anglican, the answer might not be as clear.

Thank you…so basically they’re all the same…the only difference being that of whom you ask?? The irony is I’m looking into Catholicism…didn’t think that would throw up such a question as to “what am I now”. 🙂

No, what I’m saying is that Anglicans believe a variety of things, amongst themselves (a motley crew, Anglicans). Some believe things which make them consider themselves protestant, some others affirm things that make them consider themselves Catholic.

RCs consider all of them protestant. If you are moving Rome-ward, consider Anglicans protestants. Makes things easier.
