In no particular order, my favorites are:
  1. There’s a tie between Jesus of Nazareth and The Passion of the Christ.
  2. To Kill a Mockingbird
  3. Return to Me
  4. The Breakfast Club
  5. Dominick and Eugene - most touching movie I’ve ever seen about the love between siblings, twins I might add. This is a big tearjerker, but ultimately inspiring film. Ray Liotta and Tom Hulce are amazing.
  6. Lonesome Dove - made for TV movie starring Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall, but I think it’s the best Western film of all time. I’m not a Western fan, but my brother got me hooked on this movie.
  7. Forrest Gump
  8. The Color Purple
  9. Moonstruck
  10. The Song of Bernadette
  11. Peggy Sue Got Married
  12. Frequency
  13. The Maldonado Miracle
  14. Gone With the Wind

I liked the movie “Defending Your Life” because it was funny and made some interesting points about the relative importance of courage as a spiritual trait.

Also among my favorite movies are “Pirates of Penzance,” and “The Music Man” because I played in the orchestra for a production of them.

The Greatest Story Ever Told. (with Max Von Syndow)

The Bible (with George C. Scott)

The Ten Commandments (with Charlton Heston)

The Shoes of the Fisherman (with Anthony Quinn)

2001: A Space Odyssey (by Stanley Kubrick)

Lawrence of Arabia (with Peter Otoole)

The Lion In Winter (with Katherin Hepburn)

I saw all these movies when they first came out and where inspiring and innovative; plus they’ve withstood the test of time and are still a pleasure to watch.

  1. The Matrix Trilogy
  2. Princess Mononoke
  3. Akira
  4. Terminator 2: Judgement Day
  5. Pirates of the Carribbean: The Curse of teh Black Pearl
  6. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  7. Fight Club
  8. Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2
  9. The Passion of the Christ
  10. Whisper of the Heart
  11. Escaflowne: A Girl on Gaia
  12. The Sixth Sense
Aside from the top 3 the latter are only favourite films I can recall at the moment… seen so many… although you can tell I like a lot of animated titles, or are those not supposed to be included in this list… live action movies only?:ehh:

I just watched the Passion of the Christ for the first time yesterday. Every moment just pulls at your heart. A fantastic, incredibly moving movie. Definetly might watch it again.

As for favorites, Gone with the Wind, Forrest Gump, and a comedy called Office Space. There’s parts in it that are not too Christian, :o but I couldn’t help laughing. Those are the first ones that come to mind, anyway. 🙂

That movie was hilarious, and therapeutic for me!

Along those same lines, I also like “Anger Management,” "Meet the Parents, “Analyze This,” and “Analyze That” with Rob’t. DeNiro.

I am not sure that I can give a religious movie title but of the movies that I have seen recently:

Bride and Prejudice - very funny
Phantom of the Opera - excellent

The following movies have to get an honourable mention:

Chicago
The Star Wars Trilogy
My Fair Lady
Pirates of Penzance (movie of stage presentation)
Mikado (several versions)
Indianna Jones Trilogy
Romancing the Stone
Mary Poppins
The Wizard of Oz
Sound of Music

Movies with a religious theme:

Man for all seasons (Have not seen it for years)
Greatest story ever told
Song of Bernadette

I have not seen the Passion of Christ. I do not like movies with violence and have been put off from seeing it. Perhaps I will get the courage to watch it soon.

I recently for the first time watched “The Exorcist.” I was a kid when the movie was first released in the early 1970s. Being fundamentlaist Pentacostal then I was told if I watched this movie I would become demon possessed. So for all of my life I’ve avoided watching it. (And fundamentalists often accuse Catholics of being superstitious? Hoo-boy. :whacky: )

I found it to be an excellent film, yes, with some disturbing images, but one needs to keep in mind the context of the story. I am happy to report that I did not become demon possessed while watching the film. I found the priests in the film to be believable, human and heroic. Trully one of the all-time greatest films and now one of my personal favorites. 👍

Just saw the “Village”, much better than the reviews stated. Not as scary as I thought it would be. I liked 6th sense and Unbreakable better but it was still worth the rental fee, not worth buying though.

On my all time favorites lists:

the 10 Commandments (first movie I saw with my then future wife to be). The Passion of the Christ, Shoes of the Fisherman, Ben Hur.

The 3 Lord of the Rings movies, the Harry Potter movies, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White.

The original King Kong, Jurassic Park, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, the first Star Wars, Doctor Strangelove, all of the S Connery James Bond movies.

You Got Mail, Big (Tom Hanks), all of the Peter Seller’s - Pink Panther movies, What’s Up Doc (Streisand and Ryan ONeal)

WC

Also, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Raven (with Vincent Price) and another very old movie called Jack the Giant Killer (the original, the remake was really cheesy.) The orginal was destroyed in a fire and they tried to piece together bits and pieces from it - horrible .

Why ?

I like fantasy adventures (the 3 above) , love dinosaur movies, love romantic comedies and side busting comedys (Whats Up Doc and the Pink Panthers)

One of my all time favourites that I can watch over and over again is KOYAANISQATSI

I loved Koyansiquatsi too.

Some of my favorites.

  1. The Phantom of the Opera
  2. Princess Mononoke
  3. Spirited Away
  4. Castle in the Sky
  5. Really anything by Hayao Miyazaki (Sp?)
  6. The Last Samurai
  7. Pirates of the Carribean

The Replacements: Very funny with a great moral message

Bruce Almighty: Loved everything about this film

Bram Stokers Dracula (Francis Ford Coppola version): Best movie in the genre I’ve ever seen.

Just saw Exorcist: The Beginning. Definitely far above the other sequels. I saw the first when I was very little, and still can’t quite bring myself to sleep on my back.
