(Quote from djrakowski):
Oh, and FrankvT, GREAT call with KOYAANISQATSI! I’ve never met anyone who’s seen it, other than my former classmates in the MSU film studies department

I second that! The 1st time I saw Koyaanisquatsi, I’ll admit that I was one stoned puppy (mmm…Thai Stick!) :whacky:. Several years later, after I’d stopped all that nonsense, I watched it again. Even in an “unaltered state” of consciousness, this is still a wonderful, mesmerizing film. Fine, fine flick indeed.

Peace!

Big Fat Greek Wedding
Signs
Forrest Gump
The Passion of Christ
School of Rock
We were soldiers once
Thirteen days

MR. C says:
Twister
My 50 First Dates
Back to the Future Trilogy
Arsenic and Old Lace
Its a Wonderful Life

Mrs. C. says:
The Passion of the Christ
Hiding Place
Star Trek IV (the humor)
To Kill a Mockingbird (so much like the book)
The River of No Return (I was facinated with this as a child)
The King and I (Yul Brynner, Deborah Kerr)
An Affair to Remember
Sabrina (the original)
Godspell
South Pacific
Muppet Christmas Carol

Young Master C says:

I just bought Finding Neverland. The best movie I’ve seen so far.

We also like Pirates, can’t wait for the next one.
In America was very good
Mystery, Alaska
The English Patient
I Dream of Africa

My husband thinks the movies I like are boring. That just means that he won’t be talking through them because he is in the other room.

  1. The Scarelt Pimpernel (1982 Seymour/Andrews/McKellan)
  2. Gone with the Wind
  3. The Count of Monte Cristo (Jim Caviezel)
  4. Master & Commander
  5. The Sound of Music

I agree with the Count of Monte Cristo. Only the Jim Caviezel version. I think Gerard Depardieu is a little old to be Dantes in his version.

Favorite religious movie: “Jesus of Nazareth” It sticks pretty close to the Gospel of Matthew, plus you don’t have to suffer through annoying angel music in the background whenever Jesus speaks.

Non Religious:
Citizen Kane
To Kill a Mocking Bird
The Producers
On The Waterfront
Anything by Fellini
Cinema Paradiso
Magnificent Seven
Seven Days in May
Dr Strangelove
The Sting
The Longest Day

I think "Some Like it Hot’ is a piece of **** regardless of what critics say.

Return to Me is one of my favorites. Besides the great music, I loved the Catholic themes throughout.

I also like Legally Blond. While there were some sexual references I didn’t care for, I love the character of Elle Woods. She genuinely cared for people no matter who they were or how much money they had. —KCT

I totally agree! One of my favorites for the exact same reasons.

One of my favorites is Elf with Will Farrell. It’s just a funny, cute movie. I don’t like involved and complex movies in general, and this is a simple movie that makes me laugh! I think that Buddy has a certain sweetness and innocence about him, very child-like and humble. I recommend it if you haven’t seen it. I can watch it over and over again and still enjoy it!

I just borrowed Song of Bernadette from my sister. I haven’t seen it in years. It was so good. Very moving. It’s such a marvelous story.

Aunt Martha

Religious:
*The Passion of the Christ
*Song of Bernadette
*The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima
*Scarlet and the Black
*Abraham
*David
*Come to the Stable
*Bells of St. Mary’s
*In the Beginning

Secular:
*Enchanted April (because it shows how several people with superficial, unhappy lives find new meaning and happiness in appropriate ways – including with their own spouses. A British movie and definitely a woman’s movie.)
*The Green Glove (an old fictional movie about a glove with healing powers that had belonged to a saint and was stolen from a French Catholic Church during WW II)
*The Scarlet Pimpernel (old and new versions)
*A Dog of Flanders

*** I recently watched an old (70’s ?) movie called The Conflict based on the book “Catholics” by Brian Moore. It is about a group of Irish monks and priests in a remote area of Ireland who have continued to offer the Latin mass. A priest from Rome (Martin Sheen) comes to correct the problem. It is a very thought provoking movie. Has anyone here seen the movie? I am interested in opinions. Or has anyone read the book? 🙂

i have many other movies that are my fafvorites to many to list

Pulp Fiction

Kill Bill I

Kill Bill II

Napoleon Dynamite

All are highly imaginative, entertaining, and avoid cliche and sentimentalism.
