I wish to memorise some Pslams but I obviously I can’t memorise all of them. I think I can manage to memorise about 10.
I’ve memorised the following already:
Psalm 23 taking comfort in our Lord
Pslam 51 asking our Lord to cleanse us
Pslam 91 the Lord will protect us
Pslam 1 well…it’s the first Psalm.

I’m looking for approx 6 others. Do you have your favourites you can recommend to me?

I’m using NAB bible numbering system for the Psalms.

Psalm 121 The Song of Ascents

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
_ from where will my help come?_
2 My help comes from the Lord,
_ who made heaven and earth._

3 He will not let your foot be moved;
_ he who keeps you will not slumber._
4 He who keeps Israel
_ will neither slumber nor sleep._

5 The Lord is your keeper;
_ the Lord is your shade at your right hand._
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
_ nor the moon by night._

7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
_ he will keep your life._
8 The Lord will keep
_ your going out and your coming in_
_ from this time on and forevermore._

My favorites are Psalm 50 “Miserere mei, Deus”, Psalm 129 “De profundis”, and Psalm 69 “Deus, in adjutorium”. I always pray Psalm 50 before Confession and I like praying Psalm 129 for the souls in Purgatory. I’ll occasionally pray all of Psalm 69 when asking help from God in temptations or something, but I usually just say the first verse.

I remember memorizing this Psalm as a child. The verse “He that keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps” really opened my eyes - to think that He NEVER sleeps and is always watching and caring for us.

I love that ‘statement’ also. It stirs such a mystical love for our Father inside you.

I have always loved psalm 104 (in my New American Bible but psalm 103 in my Byzantine Catholic Book of Prayers (printing error?)) Praise of God the Creator. It has so much beautiful imagery and the psalm flows so smoothly that when I read it, I know all is well in Him.

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and our strength,
an ever-present help in distress.
Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken
and mountains quake to the depths of the sea

It has been a favorite of mine since I was a child.

Psalm 34

18 - The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 131
O LORD, my heart is not proud,
nor haughty my eyes.
I have not gone after things too great,
nor marvels beyond me.

Truly, I have set my soul
in tranquility and silence.
As a weaned child on its mother,
as a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, wait for the LORD,
both now and forever.

I’m trying to memorize Psalm 23, but there are so many versions. Which version is your favorite?
