What is beatific happiness?

Is this type of happiness, an unimaginable one (I think it is)?

Is this type of happiness qualitatively different from having an uninterrupted enjoyment of friends, love, wealth, health, and learning altogether?

I think on Earth we only see a bit of this true joy and that we don’t see it that often. It really will be the unending joy our hearts have been forever searching for. We will finally finish the quest and reach victory, we will have found that beauty Augustine perfectly describes.

Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you had created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would not have been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. Is this type of happiness qualitatively different from having an uninterrupted enjoyment of friends, love, wealth, health, and learning altogether?

Yes, it is a much different kind of happiness than that. If we tasted just a little bit of it we would want to leave everything and go right to the Lord. But, He has work for us to do for Him.

Yes, qualitatively and quantitatively different. We have some inkling perhaps in the comparatively miserly peace and joy and well-being or even sense of being “home” that we may experience at times- but those are never complete or exhaustive or permanent to the depths of our beings-and we know that; I think we sense much is missing. In any case this happiness is said to be unimaginable, ineffable.
