What is blessed salt?

I have heard of blessed salt before but have never seen or used any. What is blessed salt used for?
 
Because of its use since ancient times in the preservation and seasoning of food, salt is a symbol of purification and preservation. Blessed salt can be used by laypeople in much the same manner as holy water, as a means to bless one’s home.
