What is catholic teaching on the man of sin in 2Thessalonians?

So many websites online say that it’s the pope. What is the truth?
 
The “man of sin” refers to the Antichrist.

See Haydock’s commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2.

It is problematic to identify the popes as the Antichrist because the Antichrist is one particular man who shall only appear shortly before Christ’s second coming, whereas there have been many popes throughout history.
 
Hi everybody. Yes they are Protestant websites, loosely defined. America is largely a Protestant nation, no?
