What is Catholicism?

What is the purpose of the visible Catholic Church including its role on earth?

How does the visible Catholic Church operate in order to attain its purpose?

What is the Mystical Body of Christ?

Blessings,
granny

The human person is worthy of profound respect from the moment of conception.

Never one to pass up butchering a quote I must say;

The Church, It is I!.

On a more serious note; Catholocism is the belief associated with the Catholic Church; which means the “Universal” Church.

The Purpose of the Catholic Church is to follow this command: Matt.28:19 "Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. "

The Mystical Body of Christ is the Church.

The Mystical Body of Jesus Christ

“You are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall never prevail against it” Matthew 16:18

The Church was established on Peter and the Apostles to continue Christ’s Work in the world and bring the Gospel to all nations, nationalities, etc.

By administering the sacraments (Marriage, Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the sick(also known as last rites)) and preaching the Gospel, the Church continues Christs ministry through the Hierarchy of Bishop’s, Cardinals, Priests, Religious orders, and lay people with the Pope(Bishop of Rome) as the leader of the Church in the world.

Dear grannymh
I am not 100% sure. But, I can try to explane how I understand it so far.

What is Catholicism?
The universal Truths of God as revealed to us by Him through His Word Jesus Christ, His Son, and enlightened and iluminend in us with His very Breath, the Holy Spirit.
What is the purpose of the visible Catholic Church including its role on earth?
It’s very cornerstone is it’s heart. From that heart flows all Universal Truth. That Truth flows out to the world so that through that Truth it can lead the world back to the heart. The fulness of Truth. Jesus Christ. True God and True man.
How does the visible Catholic Church operate in order to attain its purpose?
It has Apostolic succession. An Apostolic Leader will take all that his predecessor learned of it’s Truth in his heart, mind and soul and plant it in his own heart. he will then let it grow in his heart, mind and soul and pass it on to his successor. At the same time, all that he is enlightened and illumined to understand will be taught to the world.
What is the Mystical Body of Christ?
*The Mystical Body of Christ is the very Life source that encompasses sustains and fulfills all Truth of our existance.

If I messed up on anything I am sure others can clarify and correct, this is just how I understand it now.*

Absolutely!

What is Catholicism?
Catholicism is the belief and practices of the Catholic Church.
What is the purpose of the visible Catholic Church including its role on earth?
The purpose of the visibile Catholic Church is to build up the Kingdom of God, and its role on earth is to carry on the mission of Christ as priest, prophet, and king; or to put it in other words, to sanctify, evangelize, and serve.

To state this yet another way, let me quote the words of my pastor, who addressed this in a letter to our parish: “As a people called by God and formed in His image, we share in the mission of the Church which continues the mission of Jesus Christ as Priest, Prophet, and King. Each of us, by virtue of the grace received at baptism, are given the vocation to lives of holiness through the sacramental life of the Church [priest], to proclaim the Gospel in our words and deeds [prophet], and to live in justice and charity with others [king].”
How does the visible Catholic Church operate in order to attain its purpose?
Christ founded the Church on earth and established Peter as its head on earth.
(Reference Matthew 16:18 “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church”.)

And he gave the apostles a mission.
(Reference Matthew 28: 19-20 “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”)

And the authority he gave to the apostles is handed on to successors, to continue this mission. Thus we have successors to the Peter, the Vicar of Christ (the pope) and the successors to the apostles (the bishops). And through them and our priests and deacons, we have the hierarchy of the Church which leads the flock in the building up of the Kingdom of God.
What is the Mystical Body of Christ?
The Mystical Body of Christ is all the baptized, those on earth who are Christ’s hands and feet and eyes and ears, who are Christ to one another.
