I recently read in the Catechism that the Church condemns incest, but I think some Biblical figures were in relationships with close relatives. Can someone help me understand this?

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

Catechism of the Catholic Church said:
**2388 ***Incest *designates intimate relations between relatives or in-laws within a degree that prohibits marriage between them. St. Paul stigmatizes this especially grave offense: "It is actually reported that there is immorality among you . . . for a man is living with his father’s wife. . . . In the name of the Lord Jesus . . . you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh. . . . " Incest corrupts family relationships and marks a regression toward animality.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has the official teaching of the Church on incest. It is a grave sin.

The idea that the children of Adam and Eve were in incestuous marriages is, in my judgment, mere speculation, and one I do not find a reason to believe.

A clear example of incest in the Bible is Lot and his daughters who got him drunk and slept with him so they could have children, but I certainly don’t think the Bible recording this incident should be interpreted as an endorsement of such behavior. The Mosaic Law, which guided the morals of the people who wrote the Old Testament, clearly outlaws incestuous relationships, both with blood relatives and relatives by marriage.

Likewise, from commentary I have read the abomination among the Corinthians condemned by Paul as a misinterpretation of Christian liberty was very likely incestuous marriage.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

2356 Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is **always an intrinsically evil act.

Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them. **
