As personally I do not really hold completely to indulgence, but instead praying so I can go through my day and beat the temptation, what is consider “daily rosary”? Do I need to pray it without interuption? Can I skip the introductory prayers/the prayer after rosary (no, not skipping hail holy queen)

The rosary is a private devotion. Pray it in whatever way works best for you. Some people break it up a decade at a time at different parts of the day like the Liturgy of the Hours. It’s not something for which slavishness is called for. It’s meant to help us get closer to God. It’s not a magic formula. Pray it in whatever way is helpful to you.

From the Handbook of Indulgences:

A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.

It doesn’t specify about interruptions, but I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that. Worst case scenario, it’s still a partial indulgence (which is what it would be anyway unless you are praying in Church or with others).

Indulgences are an opportunity for grace that the Church offers us. The purpose is not to get us to legalistically go through the motions but rather to encourage us to enter into prayer and be detached from sin.

Thank you! I would love to pray half on way to work and half on the way back, but I know that I would feel guilty doing it that way. I may consider praying it this way occasionally 🙂

I pray the rosary every day – it is the only prayer that keeps me going – I say the first two decades with my first cup of coffee – the other decades I say one at a time when I’m walking to Church – or walking to public transportation, etc., etc. – and the last decade I say before I turn out the light at night.

Okay. I think I will just break up the rosary into decades for now.

I pretty much downgraded my rosary. It was trying to do 3 per day, then 2, then now I am doing 1 + LoTH.

Remember to gain an indulgence there are other conditions required to be met.

I am sure Our Lady is as happy with one Hail Mary or Our Father as with 100.

As noted in the thread, the rosary is a private devotion.

The LOTH if said in accordance with the proper format is a participation in the second great liturgy of the Church.

So bravo for participating in both!

pray the rosary;

perhaps the most important PRAYER of all
it may be the most important private devotion of the Church, and it certainly is the most popular. But I would submit that the Mass and the LOTH, the two main liturgies of the Church, are more important.

And that is most definitely not meant to in any way discourage anyone from saying the rosary.

I lead the Rosary every Sunday before our High Mass. It takes me exactly 18 minutes to say it reverently. I was instructed that one Rosary said reverently is worth a thousand said as fast as you can. Meditate on each mystery as you pray the Ave Maria.

This year my goal has been to say all 15 decades of the traditional Rosary each day. So far so good. It doesn’t take all that long.

Even though the rosary contains it, I’d put the Our father above it as well.
I pray the rosary daily, I’d never say it’s the most important prayer. It’s not mandatory for a Catholic to pray it at all! The Mass itself far surpasses it as you point out.

I used the term “important” only in that it is so widely taught and practiced. and given that Christ taught us the Our father, I see your point.

And as to mandatory - I said it was a private devotion. That should at least imply that it is not mandatory.

Per the Manual of Indulgences (USCCB, 2006) which is this official English translation of the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum: Normae et Concessiones, fourth edition, 1999, p. 58-9:

17
Prayers To the Blessed Virgin Mary

§1 A plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who
1° devoutly recite the Marian rosary in a church or oratory, or in a family, a religious community, or an association of the faithful, and in general when several of the faithful gather for some honest purpose;
2° devoutly join in the recitation of the rosary while it is being recited by the Supreme Pontiff and broadcast live by radio or television.
In other circumstances, the indulgence will be partial.

The rosary is a prayer formula consisting of fifteen decades of Hail Marys preceded by the Our Father, during the recitation of which we piously meditate on the corresponding mysteries of our redemption.

Regarding the plenary indulgence for the recitation of the Marian rosary, the following is prescribed:

  1. *]The recitation of a third part of the rosary is sufficient, but the five decades must be recited without interruption.
    *]Devout meditation on the mysteries is to be added to vocal prayer.
    *]It its public recitation the mysteries must be announced in accord with approved local custom, but in its private recitation it is sufficient for the faithful simply to join meditation on the mysteries to the vocal prayer.
