HE FILES, 19/01/2006 (ALC/ACPress.net)
The pentecostal shepherd Darío Lopez Rodriguez affirmed that the evangelical churches of Latin America more and more have a visible presence in the public scene and a remarkable numerical growth that it will be increased in the next decades.
The Catholic Church, predominant in the continent, no longer it is the only confession that regulates religious dynamics, it maintained Lopez, vice-president of Evangelical National Concilio and shepherd of the Church of God. The shepherd Lopez said that the evangelical ones in Latin America no longer are an imperceptible minority and its influence is let feel in the public scope.
Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, according to the Nationmaster Encyclopedia corresponding to 2003, they have one feligresía evangelical between the 15 and 25 percent of the population.
According to Lopez the evangelical sectors have acquired own voice and its opinion is taken into account by the political community, the civil society and the State. It mentioned between these, its defense of the human rights and its participation flood in key spaces of defense of the democracy and affirmation of citizen values.
It recognized the policy like a legitimate field of mission for the evangelical ones, but it warned that the Christians who incursionen in policy require to have a solid Biblical formation, a experience makes specific on watch the fellow, a political culture and coherence between which it preaches and what every day in its work does.
It criticized “the illuminated” Christians whom they affirm that the evangelical believers have been called “to be head and he does not stop to be tail” in the subjects public.
It deplored the public management of most of the evangelical ones which they have incorporated in the Congress and the municipalities, specially in period 1990-2000 of ex-president Alberto Fujimori.
It needed, in that sense, that the evangelical shepherds and lay leaders thought that was an opportunity to enjoy the benefits that the possible step by the power grants and accepted the temporary favors, as if they were divine gifts.
