What is Hell like?

That being said, I noticed that one thread, on the justice of Hell, had lengthy discussions on what Hell was really like. This seemed to be at a tangent, at the very least. Ergo, this new thread. I admit that I havenā€™t checked for another one exactly the same. Iā€™d rather start fresh.

My own concept of Hell is best explained by the excruciating heat of extreme anger, combined with the extreme coldness of loneliness. When one is extremely angry, one is caught up in the ā€˜fireā€™ of total self-consuming fury. It closes others out. Closing other people out, in its turn, causes the ā€˜coldnessā€™ of isolation.

On earth, we can get over these states of utter misery, but in Hell we may not.

Satan is eternally locked in this misery, and seeks others to join him - not because he seeks their company, but because he hates God, and wants to possess the souls that God has created for Heaven.

Our Holy father and his predecessor both wrote on this. They say that we must be careful not to make metaphorical language literal,or embrace the views of an earlier time. Both state that hell is an awareness of the permanent loss of God.No fire, no bodily torment ,no devils poking you with tripods.
 
Hell is knowing you blew it for all eternity ā€¦ a whole lot of weeping.

But alot has to be revealed! Personally I think god in his grace will make a way for those in hell. As spoken above hell is more like a state of being. But god is everywhere.

šŸ‘ Some take morbid delight in dwelling on the supposed tortures inflicted on the damned whereas in reality it is a case of self-inflicted misery!

Yes, and the imagined tortures, also imagined to be inflicted by God, are what give those who would mock so much ammunition.

  1. I agree that ā€œa lot has to be revealedā€. It has been. Next, the revelation must be accepted. Then, it has to be acted upon. God judges according to the different circumstances of each personā€™s life.
  2. I disagree that God in His grace will ā€˜make a wayā€™ for those in Hell. Hell is eternal separation from God. There is no escape once in Hell, but there are myriads of chances before death. Moreover, there are ways for sincere and good persons to gain Heaven. God saves. And God is the only One with enough information to judge each individual. No one in Hell can ever tell God that the choice was not theirs, or that Godā€™s judgement was erroneous. Hell is for those with an implacable hatred of God, either implicit or explicit. They sought to be without God on earth, up until the moment of death, and God respects that choice for eternity.

Imagine not having a ā€œhomeā€ to ever go home to. We experienced it - to some extent - if we were ever lost as kids. We also experience it - to some extent - whenever weā€™re lost in another city. One that weā€™re completely unfamiliar with. Think how you felt when you found out that you found your ā€œhome!ā€ The difference between Hell and Heaven. We shouldnā€™t be so arrogant that Hell isnā€™t scary.

Fear, gross, painful, depressing, hot, suffering, lonelyā€¦

pretty much everything bad is what would define hell.
