found my grandfathers holy name book and i hear they have meetings at church… what do they do, volunteer work, ?? thanks:)

The chief and primary purpose of the Society of the Holy Name of our Lord Jesus is to promote a devotion to that Name. It is founded based on scriptural passages scattered all over the Holy Bible. We find phrases such as “Blessed be the Name of the Lord God of Israel”, and “At His Name every knee shall bend”.

The Society loves the blessed way by which God our Father has described the Lord. It assembles at periodic times in its selected parish to say prayers, come together in Christian fellowship, and to plan for local charities. The central aim is generally spreading a devotion to our Lord’s Name and making all men love Jesus Christ more thoroughly. That Litany which glorifies the Holy Name of our Lord is typically said, and many prayers follow.

It is a Dominican confraternity, simply because they developed the groups first.

The Holy Name Society that was around my church hosted card parties! What they did other than that, I don’t know, as I was too young to take any interest in them at the time. The local one disbanded though.
