What is immortality?

I’ve once heard that in metaphysics there’s like three great questions.God,free will and immortality.What I’ve noticed in fiction is sometimes immortality means that age wont kill you but you can be killed by other means (since your not per se indestructible).In a perhaps more realistic context though what would immortality be defined as, for instance when reffering to the* immortal presence *of something?.Thank you very much so for your time.

Immortality is the undivided Spirit of God. Only God is immortal since he does not change. All that pertains to God is immortal. His word is immortal, his spirit is immortal, his being is immortal, his little finger is immortal (this includes all 3 persons of the divine trinity). As distinct persons they are immortal and as one God they are immortal. God is the only immortality in existence. There is no other.

Strictly speaking “immortal” means “that which does not die” - implying that it refers to **physical **beings because spiritual beings are not associated with physical death. (Whether there is spiritual death is another matter.)

God is not immortal but eternal because He created life - which normally results in death. Death is not intrinsically evil because it is an integral element of the biocycle - as far as physical beings are concerned.

Since our nature is physical and spiritual we are mortal and immortal. We die but we don’t disappear!

The nuts and bolts of it:

Nothing in the universe can destroy the soul.

Well, does the soul have immortality by itself? Not quite.

If God withdrew his sustaining of the soul’s existence, the soul would instantly disappear,
but God has promised he would not do this. The Bible is full of this promise.

This means that the intellect and will of the soul will continue their activity forever in Heaven where it will participate in God’s divine nature.

Life is but a moment, and then, eternity.
