 wow, I used to think 9 hours away was bad!
9 hours would mean I could go spend a long weekend. As it is we see them once a year, twice if we fly at Christmas. Since the youngest moved out west 10 years ago we’ve seen him 6 times, twice when he came to his siblings’ weddings (2006 & 2012), twice at Christmas (2007 & 2011) and twice when we visited (2010 & 2015). Thank God for Skype as it allows me to have virtual breakfast with daughter and grandsons several mornings per month.

That sounds tough, Phemie. It is one of my fears with my own children. But we will probably follow them somewhere because they all pretty much want to end up in the same state anyway. So in a “few” years, we would just relocate when my husband retires. But yes, thank goodness for Skype, and snapchap and everything else.

DH is retired and I’m going to be doing the same in a few years. Then we’ll either move back to the community where I grew up and build a house, putting us a day’s drive (in opposite directions) from the two oldest, or we’ll move to the city where DD & her family live. Regardless of what we do we’ll still be a minimum 36 hours from the youngest.

Respect for my point of view. I have some opinions about how to live life. I know they are the best choices for me, but most people roll their eyes at my point of view. Rarely do they even respect my suggestion ‘let’s agree to disagree’

Also friends that have compassion that what I have one through/going through

And I don’t know what to call it, but the opposite of living in constant fear at work

Angie
Awww. I am very sorry.

My children living within a few hours of my home. Alas! The closest live ~25 hours away by car, the baby lives ~57 hours driving away.

Would love to hear about it,
Nothing very exciting. We live up north, in Labrador.

It’s a 6-7 hour drive to the next town. Another 7-8 hours to the 2nd town in another province and we’re still only heading south. Then a drive down to Montreal and then across the country to Alberta. Long and tedious. We’ve never driven there, just flown and only when we could get tickets on points because it’s prohibitively expensive to fly from home.

And here I think a 6 hour drive is bad …But then on Irish roads,

A good relationship with my father.

A husband.

The temperament to be a good wife and mother. (Okay this is more theoretical but I really fear that even if I do eventually get married I will mess it up because of my Family of Origin issues.)

A career.

Children! 😦
I wish I could hug you right now. I’m so sorry. It took me 19 years and several losses to be this close. I’m so happy but guarded and at times I feel guilty for being so happy. I know you’re hurt and I wish I could share this joy with you. My prayers are with you tonight and for everyone else whose arms ache to hold children of their own.

a personal relationship with God.

conversations (two way) with God.

financial stability.

healing for my son’s condition.

None of these will happen.
