I had looked at some prophecies like “the great Chastisement”. what is the churches stance. do these prophecies fit?

Ignore them. Jesus told us not to look for signs but to always be ready. Some people make themselves miserable trying to look for signs of end of days. Live life according to Christ’s teachings and forget the doom and gloom stuff.I had looked at some prophecies like “the great Chastisement”. what is the churches stance. do these prophecies fit?

May I refer you to the Prophecy of the Popes which predicts just one more Pope after Francis and then “the terrible Judge will judge His people. The End”
This Prophecy also calls for the “final persecution of the Holy Roman Church” under the reign of Pope Francis. Ominous, and it ties in with the terrible visions of Pope St. Pius X about a disaster at Vatican City which will directly affect Benedict XVI. It’s happening soon if it’s happening at all. Pray that it doesn’t.

The only propheices which are widely known in Catholicism, that I am aware, of what is prophesized at Medjegoria. But, those are not end of world type prophecies and are not officially adopted by the Church.

There are not adopted by the Church because three Bishops Commissions (the competent Church authority) in Medjugorie formally declared that there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings in Medjugorie.The only propheices which are widely known in Catholicism, that I am aware, of what is prophesized at Medjegoria. But, those are not end of world type prophecies and are not officially adopted by the Church.

Pope St. Pius X is reported to have referred to the motto, “Religio depopulata,” and Benedict XVI mentioned the phrase “Pastor angelicus” when speaking about Pius XII.

If the Prophecy of the Popes is the one by “St Malachy” then yes he was gullible and if alive today I would tell him in a respectable way. The motto that Pope Pius chose was from the Prophecy of the Popes that was published by Fr. Arnold Wion in 1595. You do have the right prophecy. Fr. Wion attributed his list of papal mottoes to St. Malachy, perhaps to avoid attention from the Roman Inquisition. In that regard all of his 113 papal mottoes are forgeries. However, only the ones made prior to 1590 were written after the fact. For the mottoes made for popes after 1590 the test of the prophecy is if the mottoes show any signs of validity, and not that they were falsely attributed to someone else.
While the Catholic Church has never formally endorsed Wion’s papal mottoes, it has not disavowed them either, despite having had 400 years to do so. Perhaps you are thinking of the essays posted by the authorities here at CAF who have all regarded the prophecy as invalid.
As I previously stated, you have every right to believe that this list of papal mottoes is not valid. However, some of us have noted successes in mottoes that were very unlikely to have come true. Aquila rapax and Religio depopulata are prime examples. A pope would not be expected to be associated with a “rapacious eagle” nor would a pontiff be expected to preside over the depopulation of religion.

The original version of the Prophecy of the Popes (LIGNUM VITAE,1595) has 113 papal mottoes, and Pope Francis in number 112 on this list.I do believe we are on the last pope. but thats my belief
In 1624 Fr. Thomas Messingham published a slightly altered version in which the last two paragraphs were run together thereby shortening the number to just 112 (FLORILEGIUM INSULAE SANCTORUM, 1624.)
Messingham’s version is the one that everyone has used, and this has led to the present day confusion about which motto applies to Pope Francis. His motto, number 112 in the original version, reads:
In psecutione. extrema S.R.E. sedebit.
—(He will reign in the final persecution. of the Holy Roman Church.)
This is quite ominous. Let’s hope that our friend Thistle is right about the mottoes and that this prediction does not come true.

but if you listen to malachi martin and st francis and blessed anne catherine emmerich prophecies about our times and the pope, particularly anne catherine about the two popes, I don’t want to speculate but they would make you think alot.

Pope Pius XII was absolutely aware that the phrase “Pastor angelicus” was his motto from the Prophecy of the Popes. This was in Catholic news articles which will pop up on a google search.
In 1880 Fr. M.J. O’Brien published his research* of the Prophecy which proved that the mottoes could not had been composed prior to 1557 and that St. Malachy therefore had nothing to do with them. While the general public still referred to the mottoes as the “Prophecy of St. Malachy,” I think that is is safe to assume that the educated prelates at the Vatican knew better.

These papal mottoes have been with us for some 400 years and their validity stands or falls on the accuracy of the post 1590 phrases and not on who was their real author. So it is really a matter of personal opinion as to whether or not the Prophecy is true. One is free to disregard the mottoes, but, on the other had, one may choose to accept them as they have never in their 400 years of existence been condemned by the Church.And it any case, we don’t know whether His Holiness knew the fraudulent history of this document.
