I’m certain you love each of your children; you’ve said so much yourself. I am sure you can understand the God and you relationship through that. Then God tells you to love your neighbor. So what do you think it would mean for your children to love each other? Now I am pretty sure that is what you want, but I’m sure you can see there is a gap in there where they don’t always seem to have that same love you have towards your children. Of course you may not ask them to have that degree or type of love due to them not having the capablity for doing it now, but you do expect something alike. Would that reflection give you any new ideas?
My daughter is much older than my son. She’s 17 and he’s 9, but functions on the level of a 6 year old. When he began to express affection, she was the first one he would run to hug.
She told me that anything ever happened to me, she would always be there for her little brother. The feelings I have for my children are expressed between them as well. I never thought about that.

In all my years of living, I’ve never known anyone who felt that way about their spouse. I think that your situation must be very rare. Do you mind if I ask if he feels the same way about you? I’ve seen newly weds who are all dewey eyed, but from my observations that lasts about a year. Then the couple begins to treat each other like a ball and chain.
We have our difficulties… don’t get me wrong. But yeah, he loves me very deeply and passionately. He would be bereft without me, and I don’t mean that to be prideful. He would, as Dr. Laura puts it, swim through shark-infested waters to bring me a lemonade. 😃

Because of how our relationship grew and developed, I see him as my own personal incarnation of The Good Shepherd. He drew me back into practicing my Catholic faith. And, I am not sure if he could or would vocalize it this way, but I helped him fill up and heal many holes and hurts in his soul, and I think he feels I am necessary for his well-being. He feels blessed by having me.

As I do about him. :o

P.S. I am so sorry that your marriage was so awful! And what you were taught about feelings, well, I’ve heard it before, but it’s just so wrong. 😦 The fact that you have risen above all that to love and care for your children is amazing. 😃
