Love is many things. But most people only think about it being an emotion. Which it certainly is. But more importantly, love is action. It’s behavior. It means treating others kindly when you feel like smacking the person. The best description of love is in 1 Corinthians. As Christians and Catholics we should all read that often. Everyday if necessary.
This is 1 Corinthians ch 13
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
And yes, it is a wonderful feeling.

I clicked it yesterday and tried to watch it, but I couldn’t because it was too painful for me. I can tell from even 30 seconds it’s a wonderful testimony to the love of 2 people who have stayed together all their lives. Probably even when the feeling of love was gone. That’s why I answered as I did.
Romantic love starts out as a feeling and we now know that feeling triggers the endorphins in our brains and causes something like a high. That can’t last very long. So love is actions.
Sometimes I find real truths in science fiction shows like Star Trek. In one episode of the Voyager series, a human falls in love with an alien girl. The love relationship is doomed to end before it started. The ship’s doctor likens love to a sickness, and after the ship leaves the Doc wants to give the human man something to ease the heartache he feels. But he refuses. There is so much truth in that. I couldn’t watch the video because it brought back the pain of my heartache when I lost my true love.

I was taught a long time ago the following.
Love isn’t a pit you can’t fall into it. It is more like a flower, it needs to be cultivated and allowed to grow. If taken care of properly it blossoms into one of the most powerful and beautiful things. It isn’t emotion, emotions are fleeting, they come and go without a thought or action. Love lasts beyond that.
This was something I asked my husband before dating him. If he didn’t understand what it was, how could I expect him to be a good husband. Obviously he answered correctly.

I’m so sorry to hear that you lost your true love, and I can understand why watching this would be painful for that reason. May God comfort and bless you all the days of your life!
As for Star Trek, there were definitely some great storylines. I never watched much Voyager, so I missed the episode that you described (although it sounds very moving), but *TNG *had some wonderful storylines, too.
