Below is a link to a 43-page article on marriage that explains why the traditional understanding of marriage is to be commended and why recognizing same-sex marriages would be a mistake. The authors are Sherif Girgis (Princeton, philosophy dept), Robert George (Princeton, politics dept.), and Ryan Anderson (Notre Dame, political science dept.) The article appeared in the Winter 2010 issue of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.

It’s a challenging read but worth the effort. The authors contrast the “conjugal view” of marriage with the “revisionist view.”

Sorry I have only read the Abstract, and it talks about moral and philosophical reasons for the traditional definition of marriage. In the Uk we have been asked to sign a petition to keep the present legal definition of marriage of man and women.

BUT…

As Catholics we should be fighting to keep the definition of marriage as; ‘ one man and women before GOD, till death do us part. The moral, philosophical and legal definition of marriage becomes meaningless if we do not put God first.

Without God any kind of marriage is a sham.🤷
