I struggle with this concept a lot lately.

What is my purpose (in this life)? My wife and I are struggling with the idea that we may be infertile. We have no real family on either said and are fairly alone.

My only real talent is writing. Creative writing to be exact. I suppose my question is, can I make God happy through my writing?

I’ve been trying to look upon my writing as a gift or talent, and that maybe if I sharpen it enough, I can open up others to learning to write well as a result. Would that be pleasing to God?

How about setting up a “writing for fun” program for disadvantaged kids through a local school, church, library, chamber of commerce or other community organization.

You could minister through blogs

Creative writing is fun. I was good at it at a bizarre point in my life.

Sometimes you don’t have to do something to directly ‘help’. I know many friends who were inspired to write because they loved Harry Potter. I would say Jk Rowling’s gifts were put to great use.

The Baltimore Catechism taught that our purpose in life is to know God, to love God, and to serve God in this world and be happy with Him in the next. So anything that fits in with that is part of your purpose in life. Just loving your wife, praying, and helping others however you can would all be part of a purpose.

I think helping kids learn to write and enjoy writing is a wonderful idea. You can also write stories or books yourself that reflect Christian values.

. . . What is my purpose . . . Would that be pleasing to God?
I think you have a great definition of purpose here - our purpose in life is to be pleasing to God.
And, what pleases God is to will the good of the other.
“Love and do what you will.” St. Augustine.

All of the above, and…avoiding materialism.
People always think “stuff” is going to make them happy. It never does.
