What does it mean when someone says that something is “New Age”? What is the definition of “New Age”?

A collection of mystical, spiritual “New” beliefs, although they are actually usually remixes of old Eastern beliefs. Usually associated with Pagan and Wicca, crystals, magic, that sort of stuff.

New age philosophy is also deeply steeped in gnosticism…in effect, that my individual spiritual experience determines what my beliefs are, to the exclusion of any other person or authority.

This philosophy of relativistic reality makes the New Age movement, in effect, a religion of the Self. When ya look at it that way, it pretty much takes you back to the Garden of Eden…

Blessings,
JP Augustine

I hate to say it, but it is practiced by some really weak minded people. New Agers will generally believe just about anything they are told…except Christ of course, lol.

I heard that Enya is New Age music. I love her voice and songs but if this is the case, should I stop listening to her music?

I’m no authority, but I don’t see why it would be wrong to listen to Enya as long as her lyrics aren’t anti-Catholic and I really don’t expect to hear the line “the pope is the anti-christ” in her music, so you should be okay.

If you can’t listen to her because she isn’t Christian, then you could also not listen to 99% of the music out there.

Not all ‘new age’ music has anything at all to do with the philosophy. I don’t see why you should.

Actually, I was kinda shocked to be singing a hymn this spring at the cathedral I was attending (being new to the RCC) that was a song I only knew previously from Enya’s Shephard Moons cd: How can I keep from Singing? Different temo, but nice to have a familliar song 🙂

Anyway, Enya’s stuff is usually considered “new age” more for its style than explicit content (ie the tunes and music itself more than lyrics)

A New Age occurs every 2200 earth years. That is the time it takes for the wobble in the earth axis to make a single rotation. A next new age wont occur until approximately 2250.

Enya is from Ireland (maybe county Cork) & has a strong classical background. She played with her sibling’s group “Clannad” then was tapped by the BBC to create music for a TV documentary on St. Patrick, hence her 1st solo album. One of the songs from that album the BBC radio used as their opening theme on the air every morning (My sister who lives in London informed me of this). Enya composes the music & has a couple write the lyrics & produce her albums. She apparently is very meticulous in her efforts and it takes her months to complete each album. For example, she’ll layer 200 voices on one song to get an incredible effect. Some of her songs are featured on movie soundtracks. I personally am awaiting her next album. However, she has done some old songs including one my grandmother used to sing & also a hymn or two. I especially love her Celtic version of Silent Night. It should be available shortly for Christmas.

A bunch of Pot smoking hippies that shop at Hot Topic and dabble in witchcraft since they are so misunderstood. Crystals and water bongs along with a “free” lifestyle that promotes the acceptance of degenerate living. Designer drugs and designer religion. Wicca seems to be a prevalent theme along a sort of sixties path.

Well, I originally wanted to say something similar, but thought it wouldn’t be appreciated, lol. With that said, touche` Darrel.
